We have received from theo publisher a copy of a pamphlet giving an Interest lng account of theo battle of King''s MNountain, the centennial of which is to be celebrated next October. The sketch Is written by the Rev. Robert Lathan, of Yorkville,- in the style, at once vigorous anid finished, which characterizes all tihe writings of that gentleman. Tihe pamphlet is publish ed by Mr. L. M.- Gy'lat, the jfroprietor of the Yorkville Enquirer, and the typography is of the highest order. - Copies may be procured on applcation to the publisher, at fiteen cenits each. LooAL BRIFs.-Rofreshing showers fell in those parts on Saturday and Sunday morning, and, a new impetus has been given .to vegetable life'. Wheat inl some of the patches around town is heading out, and seeins to be in a vIgorous and growing condltlon. The southern-bound trainl was de layed for several hours on Saturday, and, did nlot reach this place until after four o'clock. It was caused by a slight break in some of th,e machinery. Another very respectable yard dog of tis towni was made the vltm of a *fatally poisonous dose a few nights ago. ITEMS FnOM TIhE aDAIK COItNEIi.". The farines of this section are very busy at work preparing for id_ plant ing their crops, all looking forward to a large cotton erop. J l'ero Is more than the usual amount of small grain sowed in this season, and it is looking extremely well for the tine of the year. Some fear that it will be injured by the cold weather. , Gardens have been badly injured by the late frosts, 'The "Corner" at this time seems to be in a prosperous condition. We bave a very flourishing school, with over. forty scholars, conducted by Miss Lizzie Anderson, who has taught sev al years in this section with the best of satisfaction to all the patrons. We also have a good Sunday School, which was organized several years ago, with Capt. J. F. V. Legg as superintendent. The school has met regularly ever since, and has been kept In a flourish ing condition by the perseverance and energy which Captain Legg and his good lady have manifested in the in terest of the children. There is vrry little said about poli tics now. We think the Greenbackers have about run their race iii this sec tion-at least it is hoped so by all the good citizens of this country. The Crosbyvillo Cornet Band have been taking a series of lessons under Mr. R. J. Herndon, of Yorkville. On the last night that Air. Herndon was with the band they went to Captain Legg's to surprise him with music at his gate. After playing a few pieces at the gate, the Captain came out and insisted on the boys going in. The invitation was accepted, and to the surprise ofthe band the Captain had got wind tlhat they would be there that night, and several ladlics and gen tlemenl had assembled to hear the mu sic. After the band had played a short time they were invited out to supper that had been prepared ior them, and we assure you that the boys played their parts well, for such a supper Is hardly ever surpassed at a first-class wedding. The table had everything on it that was good in the way of meats, turkeys, chickens, cakes fruits, etc. After supper all were invited into the ptrlor, and all enjoyed themselves until-about eleven o'clock. Thus end ed a pleasaitt entertainnent + that will not soon be forgrwoto by the members of the Crosby ville Cornet Band. DauK COuNEI. OUR. AM ID SOLDIREi.
