Landecker & Bro. Cheap Goods-Sugenhielimer & Groe schel. The measles are prevalent among the Juveniles of Ridgeway. A num ber of cases are reported among the colored children of Wiunsboro. The mosquito Is presenting his little bill already. He looks a little awk. ward and out of place, it is true, but he means business all the same. Every "bachelor" has been around to tell his girl he didn't mean what he said on Tuesday night and he just join ed the Union to get that supper. Those bills presented at the meeting of the B. P. U. for wood, oil and chips, were something appalling. Cheap fuel and lights are the desidera tum of the future. Life Is short at mast and our duty is to prolong it. Use, therefore, Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup for coughs, colds, bronchitis, hoarseness, etc. Sold everywhere. Price only 25 cents a bottle. Well informed parties say that WVinnsboro is one of the first, if not the only town, In which fertilizers are suf fered to be stored ini thle cor.poraite lim its. As these fert.ilizers are largely composed of ground carrion they are a nuisance and a menace to health. We regret to learn that tihe bar'n of Mrs. William McNall was destroyed by fire on last Monday night. In ad dition to a large quanitilty of corn and fodder dtestroyed there were three mules burnt to- death. Tihe fire is supj p)osed~ to have been of incendlary - origin. By tihe way, this burning of barns and gin-houses is getting too commdn. Somebody will have to hang for it. The town council is having the mar ket house anid steeple rep)alntedl-a great Improvement. The court-house looks dreadtily dingy.-It Is said that a Bulgarian washes once in his life, when lie is born. The court-house is a true 'Bulgarian. Cannuot our ioounty commissioners do a little ciphering in the matter? The well in the Jail yard furnishes a very inadequate supply of water, anid water has to be brought n'olk~t a great dIstance. This well nev e r has been worth much. It should also be investigated. If our f'iends in different parts of the county would only imitate the laudable example of Rietlaw, Cedar Creek, Senex anid Vidette in sending us frequent lett n-S nom their respec tive neighborhoods, they would confer upon us a much greater obligation than they are awvare of. We will not be satisfIed until we can get a corres pondent in every neighborhood. THE NE~ws AND HEnALD does all it can to help the county. Tihe county ought to huelp it. Send us tile neOws, friends. * A HOT SUPPER.-The ladies propose having a hot supper. in the Thespian Hail on the evening of tile 18th, for the purpose of raising funds to aid in building a parsonage for the Methodist Church. One or two new features will be introdiuced, which are expected to be quite attractive. The ladies of Winnsboro never fail when they un dertake anything, and we are sure the entertainment wi.be a great success. All parties desiring to ai,d in this move ment are requested to send their .con tributions to Mrs. H. B. MoMaster. Tihe facts are that last c year these defendants worked a road 2 four days, and then refused to work v anotther wlien summoned by the com misslOners. The defendants claimed that the "River Road" was not a public t road, while the coimmissione's held t that it had been one for several years, e and that the road worked by the de fendatts was not a public road. On a Tuesday the State was represented by l Messrs. Gaillard & Reynolds, and the e defendants by Capt. T. H. Clarke, of b Camden, and A. M. Mackey, Esq. t The points made were that the road t was not a.public road and that the no- } tice was not legal. 'Ihe caseq were call- t ed separately, that of Jeff. J. Posey, t colored, occupyiig the whole of TIues day. He was found guilty by the jury. tj On Wednesday a lumping comnpromise t was made, the defendants agreeing to th pay five dollars costs each, and being c discharged. ''his closes a case that has been pending for several months and has created considerable excite- .l ment among the colored people of that ' section. No further facts are given about the afli'ay. After Mr. Stevenson was cut, however, Mr. James Stevenson, w:o was with him, finding that he could not move L.in, went for aid, and it was some titme before hte succeeded in get tinganty one. Mr. Stevenson was a youing gentleinen of fine charact.er and gave promise of a useful life. We prefer to say nothing of the matter, as the circumstances will be brought out'at the proper time. In' justice to Mr. Yongue we say that lie claims self-defetnse, and says lhe was not aware of the serious character of the wound, Hie delivered himself ump to the authiorities wheni the fatal result was known. Ayer's Hair Vigor, For restoring Gray Hair to its natural Vitality and Color. - A dressing which is at once agreeable, healthy, and cf factual for pre sor- ing the mi Faded or grar hair is soon restored to its original color, with the gloss and ,freshness of youth. Thin hair is thickened, falling hair checked,' and baldness often, though not always, cured by its use. Notli ing can restore the hair whore the follicles are destroyed, or the glands atrophied and decayed. But such as remain can be saved for usefulness by this application. Instead of foul ing the hair with a pasty sediment, it wvill keep it clean and vigorous, its occasional use will prevent the hair from turning gray or fidling off, and consequently prevent baldness. Free from those deleterious substances whiich make some pr:aparati'ons dan-. gerous, and injurious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm~ it. If wanted merely for a HAIR DRESSING, nothing else can be found so desir-. ablc. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil wvhite cambric, and yet lasts long on the hair, giving it a rich, glossy lustro and a grateful perfume. Prepared by Dr. i. C.
