All communications, of whatsoever nature, should be addressed to the Winusboro Publishing Company' Winnsboro, S. C. Cotton sold on Wednesday at 114 cents. The air is thick with marriages and rumors of marriages, which Sve take to be a good sign of prosperous times. Let our bachelor friends note this, and redouble their efforts. The gin 1hous o Capt. Jas. P. Mac fle, together with fifteen bales of cotton and at quantity of cotton seed, was burned oil 'Tucaday iight last. The fire was the work of an incendiary. Our friend Brown, Sugenheiner & Groeschel's right-hand maitn:, is invest ing some of his wealth in parrots and canary birds. iHe will still, however, remain inl the dry goods business at the same (old stand;l. Several new buildings are ill course of construction in town and the sub urbs. Itis cheering to see these evi dences of prosperity, and it gives us great hope and encouragemnent for the future of our little 'IBoro. The popular pi-ejudices against pro prictary remedies has long since been conquered by the marvelous success of sich a reiedy as Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup. Used everywhere by every body. Price 25 cents. * There seems to be a good deal of horse-trading going o1 in town. Sev eral drovers are stopping over this week and they are trying to get in their "work" oil our boys, but we hardly think they will carry much surplus cash. Our readers will please bear in mind that the closing entertainent of the Histrionic Club, Under tle pres ent illanagelent will be given Oil the evening of the 1st of December. An attractive programme is out, and no doubt quite a treat is ill store for the colmull nity. Messrs. McMaster, Brice & Ce. Ilavyet for.sale phlgtog'apiis of the Hood children, ini group, of the late Gen. J. Bi. H~o'd, which they are offering with out commhission for the benmefit of the benefit of' the unfortunallito orphlans. The price for the smallest size is fifty cenlts, and for tile largest five dollars, with anl intermnediate size for one (dol Jar. Every' person should p~urclhase at, least one, as they will iuot only get the worth of tile mioney expended, but wvill also be contributing to a' very Worthly charity. Cotton was boomning yesterday, with ani advance inl prlices. If any body will take the trouble to comnpare this mlar ket with others, It wvill be seen that for several weeks past Wiimsboro nmer chlants have paid very liberally for time staple, in scome instances as mfuchl as Columbia and Charlotte, and frequent ly more than Chester. Our coutlity frienmds will please take a note of tis, amnd also rcieember that goods of' all kinds canm be bought as cheaply ill ~Wlnnsboro as in any local mnarket in the Staite. Mr. Isenhlower has flulihed the job of repairing the clock steeple, and we are once more greeted by, tile familiar striking of the bell, as each hour is told off. Tile inside wood work of the .. steeple is now p~ronounmced very sub stantial, and will likely stan~d for many y'ears to come. The plain was furnished by Capt. C. S. Dwight. If our city fathers can aff'ord thle expense, a coat of pairnt would add very much to the looks of the enltire structure, particu larly thle brick work. At any rate we take tihe liberty of making the. ag gestionl. j ITEMS .FROM CEDAR CREk9K. A Good Crop Year-The Enee Law--Old Citizens Pausing Aw ay. Items of interest are scarce -In our sec tion of thle country. Notwithlstanding the severe drought of the summer and fall, tile crops turned out better than was genleralily expected, although the cornl crop is short. The cotton crop was much better than we thought it would be. 'fie farmers are busy sowing grain. A much larger grain crop will be planlted this year thlan last, to make up for the short corn crop. This year has been a re m iarkable one for what we call a mast year (we Ifoanl the seed or nluts' of the pine tree and dfoorns) and the conse * quece Is -we have a good hog ck'op, an~d It is not unusual to -see flocks .of wild turkeys In the woods, some tihing that was a rare siglf6-a fow years back. -Our portion of the- county is * ,stirred up. just now on the fence lawy question. We whi have an election son, and If we have the fence law, good bye to hogianwd hominydn Town. ship 8. The'turkejs will go thil the ai6 tt and etile georhB will tot, snall rtpe (ot g AS WE fe iire called) 'Will have to go to Toxas,or else plant 'tators. However, we will inake an lionest efort to let things re main as they are. If, howevei, we get beat, we speak in time for the for ty miles of public fence to make us a 'tater patch, as it will be of no use to the county. We Suppose the comis sioners would sell out cheap. For amusement down in the piney woods we havo a debating society, and it Is really amusing to us, at any rate, to hear our young men argue the ditlei'ent subjects. Somettimes we go bird-hunting-and here we will say wQ have more birds than any section of country we know of-but if this meets the eye of some of the 'Boro bird-hunters, wo are afraid tley will speedily decrease in number. In the last eight months the old peo ple of our section have died very rapidly. Seven of the old leads of this community have passed away ill that time, viz.: Wm. Ilinnant and wife, Miss Tabitha Broom, Miss Polly Johnston, Mr. George Simpson, Mrs. Margaret Broom and Mr. Franklin Douglass, who died recently very sud detly of heart diseaso. The health of this section i 3 generally good, but we have sonic chills and fever in certain localities. Cedar Creck has had less water this year thain ever was known before by the oldest people. The water mills and gins have been nearly stopped, in conlisequence of which some of ouri neiglbors had to haul cotton to Wilns boro to get it ginned-a distance of nline miles. Politics have played out, only a little now and then about the next governor, and that is rather too soon to begin yet, until we know somebody who wants to be governor, for it scens to u1S.:roim the 1Imber that lihavedecliled, that the office will go begging, and as we don't want the onllce either, we will say no more about it.
