Mr. James McCully, of this county, has growing on his farm a cork tree from fiftcen to eighteen inches in di amneter, the bark averaging over one inch in thickness. Mr. McCully has been using the bark for bottle-stoppers fogr iho past two year's. This tree bear's aln acorn-- or what seems to be such-about an inch and a qularter long and a half inch in diamecter at the fullest poinit. Thlornie's Comedy Company will perform at the Thespian Hall on Mon day and Tuesday evenings. This troupe exhibited in Winnsboro last spring to very lairge houses, and in overy case acquitted themselves very handsomely. Miss Bonnie Meyer, whose acting then elicited such high praise, Is still with thle troupe, and the support Is said by thle papers to be bet ter than before. We have no doubt thait the Company will draw well this time. PR1IsONAL.-Capt. T. HI. Clarke, of Camden, was in WiHmsboro on Thurs day and Friday, attending to profes sional business. Captain Clarke, as editor of tihe Camdein Journal, has made a mark for himself in the jour nalism of this State, and has done good scryice for his county and for Democracy. lie Is also a "limb of the Jaw," and has made quite ain impres ston as a rising man In his callinig. The weather hal been fine, the exhibition creditable and the addresses by Senators Hamp. ton and Butler at the Fair groundi were listened to by a crowd of not lesi than seven thousamt persons, repre senting the counties of Chester, York, Lancaster and Fairfield. Sonatoi Iampton having declined to deliver-a speech was assigned the duty of intro ducing Senator Butler, which he did in a very neat and graceful address, lie took occasion to warni the Demo crats of Chester to settle their local diflrences and present a solid front to thle common enemy in 1880. Gen. Butler's address was complete and ex haustive treative upon the industrial and agricultural resources of South Carolina. At his conclusion lie said that while the result of the election in Ohio was not encouraging, it was no cause for despair. We in South Caro linma must present a solid front, mend our family differences, and see above all things that honest government is at least preserved in our State. So great was the crowd both in town and at the F air grounds that the military review which had been arranged had to be postponed, there being no room on the public square for the troops to harch.'
