A Word to Charleston Merohants.
Several interesting artiees and con
municatione have appeared recently
in the News and Courier concerning
the bu'inOss rhitions bxistin htween
Charleston and the up-con try. Two
points specially appear, first, that
Charleston ought to have al I I he trade
of the State; second, that she does not
get it. Believing that the interests of
Charleston and the up-cout.try are
bound up in each other, so that the
prosperity of one should redound to
the welfre of the other, we take the
liberty of mentioning in the most
kindly spirit what we believe to be
some of the chief hindrances. "irs/,
tie want ofaccommodation on the part
of the railroads, by which in times
past it has been a matter of great
difficulty to 'get cot.ton shipped- to
Charleston. Second, as suggested by
a Charlerton merchant, the want of
direct communiention between the
railroads, the eompr'esses and the
shipping. The cost of droyage to and
fro is a serious tax on cotton, and the
system of rebates is considered by the
farmer merely a combination bet wcon
parties in Charleston for increased
exactions. We forget the exact figures,
but our recollection is that. it. costs
ilore than twice as much to comitress
rind ship cotton in (''harleston Ihan in
Northern ponrt.s. T(his sy stemu ol' re
bates should be abolished. Th/ird, a
noglect, to advertise. Some one haas

for urifying the Blood,
Are the most ef
fective and conge
nial purgative ever
discovered. They
are mild, but et
fectual in their
- operation, moving
tlle bowels surely
and without pain.
. Although gentle
in their operation,
they are still the
most thorough and
searchino cathar
tic medicine that can be employca: cleans
ing the stomach and bowels. and even the
blood. In small doses of one pill a day,
they stimulate the digestive organs and
promote vigorous health.
Arn's PiLL.s have been known for
more than a quarter of a century, and have
obtained a world-wide reputation for theh'
virtues. They correct diseased action in
the several assimilative organs of the
body, and are so composed that obstrue
tions within their range can rarely with
stand or evade them. Not only do they
cure the every-day complaints of every
body, but also formilable and dangerous
diseases tlt have baffled the best of
human skill. While they produce power
ful eilets, they are, at the same time, the
safest and best physic for children. By
their aperient actrio they gripe much less
than the common purgitives, and never
yive pain when the bowels are not inflamed.
They reach the vital fountains of'tho blood,
and strengthen the system by frcing it
from the elements oft weakneps.
Adapted to all ages and conditions in
all climates, containing neither calonmel
nor any deleterious drug, these Pills may
be tak'en with safety by anybody. Their
sugar-coating preserves them ever fresh,
and makes them pleasant to take; while
being purely vegetable, no harm can arise
from their use in any quantity.
