of the Fifteenth was also among the

Too much praise cannot be accorded
to the diflerent committees, ladies and
gentlemen, who had charge of the
Sixth Regiment celebration. In lI the
departments the arrangements were
perfect, and everything went off finely.

The Entertainment on Thursday Night-A
Crowded House, an Appreciative Audi
ence, and a Very Creditable Exhibition.
Perhaps the largest audience ever
assembled in the Thespian Hall gath
cred on Thursday night to witness the
rendition of "H1. M. S. Pinafore" by
the amateurs of Winnsboro. Every
available space in the hall was filled
-the benches in the body of the roon,
the seats In the rear, and chairs in the
aisles and passages. Indeed the crowd
was so great as to make the heat almost
oppressive, and fans were quite the
order ofthe evening. Nothwit.hstand
Ing these little drawbacks, the audi.
ence were in very good humor with
themselves and their frilends and "their
sisters and their cousins and theor
auts"~-fit state of nmind to enjoy the
nautical opera that was to follow.
Promptly at the appointed hour the
curtain rose. The stage had been fit,
ted up most appropiately, and pre
sented a good imitation of a ship's
quarter-deck. The sailors, led by
Boatswain Bill Bobstay, were en
gaged in splicing rope, etc. The open
ing chorus, "We sail the ocean blue,'
was rendered in fine style. Thon
Little Buttercup came on the seem
and sang "I'm called little Buttercup,"
which was .weUl received. Then fol
lowed the Nightingale's Song by
Ralph Rackstraw, with a chorus,
and next "A maiden fair to see," a
solo by Ralph. Captain Corcoran comesi
now on the scene and greets th<
crew with "My gallant crew, good
morning." 'This is one of the finesi
scenes in "Pinafore," and it was or
the present occasion most admirably
rendered. The scene following, be.
tween the Captain and Buttercup, wa'
also admirably done by both. Jose
phine, the Captain's daughter, nowi
comes on the scene for the first time,
and singe, in admirable style and
sweot expression, "Sorry her lot.'
Sir Joseph Porter's relatives-"his
ssaters and his cousins and is aunts"
led by Cousin Hebe, now appear, firsl
singing (out 'of sight) thme barcarol<
"Over the bright blue sea," and after
wards engaging in a conversation witl:
the sailors. Sir. Joseph - himself now
comes to the front, and, after the
announcement "I am the monarch of
the sea," sings the song, "When I was
a lad," in which lie tells how h<i
came to be "the ruler of the queen'i
navee." These, with Dick Dead-eye
the "hard case" of the crew, are th<
leading characters in the play. They
all did their parts most excellently,
and were well seconded by the "gal,
lant crew," chief among whom wai
