ported as having been considerably
damaged.
A_negro named Timothy Kelly has
been lodged in jail on suspicion of
being engaged in the robbery of Mr.
James Turner's store some time back.
The proof against the party arrestefd
is said to be very strong.
An election was held at Scion Pres
byterian church on Sunday for two
elders and two deacons. W. C. Beaty,
Esq., and Capt. I. N. Withers were
chosen elders, and D. R. Flenniken,
Esq., and J. M. Beaty, Esq., deacons.
Rev. Josiah Obear, who has been for
some years the ofliciating minister in
the Episcopal churches at this place
and Ridgeway, has beei regula.rhy
called to the rectorship of the Parish
comprising the two churches, and has
accepted the call.
ExCURSION TO IENDEISONVILLE.
Au excursion train from Alston to
Hendersonville and return will be run
on the second of August. * Fare fo' the
round trip, one dollar.. The train will
pass Strothdr at 4.35, a. in., and return,
the same night.. The run will be two
hundred and -forty nmiles, affording a
