against persons charged with carry
ing concealed weapons.
Maurice 3arrymore, the actor.who
was shot at Marshall, Texas, March
19th, by Jas. Currie, arrived in
Philadelphia on Wednesday, much
improved in health.

pezin, Government of Pleskov. He
will be tried by the highest criminal
tribunal. The prosecutor-general,
Senator Leontieff, who is charged
with the prelininaay inquiry, has
commenced his labors.
A resolution was offered in the
Penn-ylvania General Assembly
recently, providing for the appoint
ment of a committee of Senators and
Representatives, including the
Speakers of both Houses, to proceed
to San Francisco to receive Gen.
Grant on his return to the United
States.
The committee appointed by the
Northern New York Methodist Con
ference sitting at Louisville to
investigate charges of heresy against
Dr. B illock, of Oswego, report that
the charges are well founded. A
bill of charges will be presented to
Dr. Bullock, and lie will be arraign

Four masked burglars broke into
the store of Rnssell & Co., at Bulger,
Penn., early on Wednesday morning
and blew open the safe. Mr. Laird,
the telegraph operator, hearing the
explosion and coming out to ascer
tain the cause was seized, gagged and
bound to a post in the store. The
burglars then set fire to the building
and decamped. Mr. Laird succeed
ed in removing the gag and arousing
the neighbors by his cries in time o
be rescued from the burning build

The extraordinary rush for the
mines of Leadville, Colorado, still
continues, and miners are flocking
there at the rate of 800 a week. Ore
is taken out worth $3 a pound. It
is thought that the locality of the
present camp will yield $36,000,000
of the precious metale per year, and
there are valleys a id rarges adjacent
to the camp enormously rich in
mines, which have not yet been fully
explored.
Replying to a vongatulatory address
of the l arshal of the l4obility, the
Czar said that he wished, notwith
standing all that had passed, to
continue to act in accordance with
the laws, but the audacity of recent
attempted assassinations forced him
against his own will to take extraor
dinary measures, not for himself, but
for all, for society, for~ Russia. This
seems to corroborate the current be
lief that the attempt on the Emper
or's life will be followed by terrible
repressive measures.
