Give your neighbor a helping handS
by recommending him to keep Dr
Bull's Baby Syrup in his family for
all the ills babies are subject to. *
Governor Hampton has been unwell
of late, and in consequence has aban
doned his contemplated trip to
Florida. The nature of his disorder
is not mentioned, but we hope it is
nothing serious.
Owing to an accident to our press
last Friday, our mail packages were
delayed a while. These packages
were taken to the oflice by an oni
ployee on Tux Naws AND HERALD a
little before nine o'clock, but could
not gain admission from the gentle
man in charge.
DEATn 01 MAS. JOHN MCDOwELL.
Mrs. John McDowell, of Ridgeway,
died at the resident:e of her brother,
Dr. J. W. Campbell, on Wednesday
last, from the effects of disease contract
ed on a recent visit to the West. Mrs.
McDowell was a native of Winnsboro,
but had lived for many years at Ridge
way. Her remains were brought to
Winnsboro on Tl irsday and buried
at the Presbyterian cemetery.
"TUE MAN OF TIlE 12Tn MAY, 1864."
-"Gordon's March," by Prof. Henry
Schoeller, of Dalton, Ga., and dedi
eated to Gei. .Jolun B. Gordon, "the
Man of the 12th May, 1864," is just
received from the enterprising pub
lishers. Admirers of the Gallant Gor
don will be delighted with the life
like lithograph that adorns the superb
imilitary title page, and the narch
itself has the true musial inspiration.
Prof. Schoeller couldn't write poor
music if tried, and this brilliant march
is worthy of its name and author.
Brass bands are already playing it
and it will soon be heard from thou
sands of pianes throughout the South.
Sold by all music dealers-or send
forty cents to tile publishers, Ludden
& Bates, Savannah, Ga.
MONUMIENT TO CArrAIN DwIGHT.
The pupils of Mount Zion School
80ome time since raised a subscription
and erected a miolnment to the mnemo

1877. A. and I. Gen. Kershaw's Di.

by his pupils and friends." It is ai
pleasing tribute to the worth of one
of the noblest and most gallant soull
that ever lived. So quietly and un
ostentatiously was the thing done thai
it was not generally known until 1
day or Iwo ago.
