Martin Sawyer, colored, was arrest ed at Blackstock on Thursday, and lodged in jail at this place, on the charge of bigamy. Lovi Douglass, a prominent colored politician, was waylaid a few days ago in ths lower part of the county by by three women and a boy, and waa severely beaten. Mie. Mr. Johna McIowell, of' this county, died at the residence of his son in Chester county, on Wedneeday, of pnieumoia, after anl illness of only two dlays. He had reached the limit of three score and ten, and boasted that he hadl never been ick. Mr. Mce1owell was an elder in the Associ .ate Ref'ormned Presbyterian church at Wiinnsboro for miay years. lIn the olden time he occupied the clerk's seat unider' the pulpit and directed the sing.. ing. lo said shortly before his death Ihat he had not missed a communion service for for'ty years. Mr. Mc Dowell was buried at the Associate Reformed church on Thursday. A SUSPECTEDn MURDu~ERn. - On Tuesday a colored man was arrested niear Monticello and brought to town by Mr. P. P. Pearson, suspected of being Paul Alstouj, the murderer of Mr. Cordeg, of Georgetown, Mr. Cordes, the son1 of the murdered gen ioman, visited WVinnsboro, and deci ded that it was a case of mistaken Identity, whereuponi Henry Chamber lain was roleased[ and went on his way rejoicing.-Theo murder was most cold blooded. Aiston and another negro wvent to Mr. Cordes' store and asked to purchaso something. While Mr. Cordes had his head downi exam ining the price mark, Aleton crush ed his skull with a stick, rifled the ,drawer of a little money, and escaped.. DzsCOVERiY OF A NEWv MINY~tAL,. In examining a specimen of ore from the SIliter Ilot Mine, on the north shore of Lake Sua erior, recently, Professor Ulenr'y uirtz discovered that it was a mineral unknown to the scientifle wvorld. Hie analyzed it and found it contained larg o roportlons of silver' and arsenic mn xed w th iron, -zinc, cobalt and sulphur. lHe exhib ited specimens of the new mineral be fore the New York Academy of Sci 01ncos, and gve to it the name of' "Iluntilit,', ni honor of Dr. T.
