A TILT AT SALEM.-A tilt was held at Salem on the 30th inst., between teams of the Fairfield Light Dragoons, Capt. Herron, and the Dark 'Corner R1angers, Capt. Estes. The weather was threatening, but a good crowd assembled nevurtheless. Messrs. R. E. Ellison, Jr., Thomas Anderson and J. Feaster Lyles were chosen as judges. The tilt resulted in a viutorv for the Rangers, by a scare of fifty ti thirty-seven. The prize for horseman ship was awarded to Mr. R. Y. Lemmon, of the Fairfield Light Dra goons. This i.s the first competitive tilt that has been hold in the county. We presume there will be more. The Rangers have provided thim selves wi-h handsome blue uniforms. NEW YEAR's EVE.-The eoinpi mentary concert of the Histrionic Club took place on Tuesday evening before a large audience. The per formnance began with the effective tab leau, the ''Old and the New Year.' This was followved by the play, ''Who Will Win Him," in which all the p)arts were admirably sustainted. After initermissiontthe duet, ''llaste, Crimson Morning," was very swveetly recndcrcd. The next play was ''All in a Fog," and the mian ner in which the actors carried out their roles caused greatmnerri ment. During the entertainment there was balloting for a silver card-case for the most popular younig lady ini town. It was awarded to Miss Ida Sugonhei .ner.
