IIYMENEAL.-Quite a number of
relatives and frienids gathered at thei
residenice of Hlon. James B. McCants,
on Tuesday morning, to wvitness the
marriage of his daughter, Miss Sallie
McCants to A. S. Douglass, Esq. The
ceremony, p)erformned by the 1Rev. HI.
B. Pratt, was very impressive. Hlearty
congratulations having beenm extended
and received, the p)arty p)artook of a
bounteous collation, anid spent an
hour or two most enjoyably. Mr.
Douglass and his bride set off on a
tour thme same afternoon. Thirm nmany
rriends wvish them a long life of un
alloyed happiness.
DEArH oF Miss. CAnOLINE AIEaN.
The tidings of the death of Miss Caro
line Aiken, at Sowaniec, Tennessee,
which reached Winnsboro on Monday,
occasioned much sorrow in Winnsboro.
Miss Allen was the daughter of the
late David Aikon, Esq., and had pass
ed most of her life at this place, where
her lovely character.and many. Chris
tian virtues endeared her to all who
knew heor. Her remains ivill reach
Winnsboro to-day at half-past: three
o'clock, and will be interred In -the
family plot at the Presbyterian como

presented a ver'y brilliant appearance
on Tuesday night, theo occasion being
the Hop of the Gordon Light Infantry,
in honor of the recent marriages o1
Captain Jordan and Sergeant Beaty.
Tihe festivities opoee with a grand
march to the Inspiring straiis of the
Columbia String Band'. Tihe ball hay
ing opened, dance after dance follow
ed in quick succession. Brass buttons
anid trim uniforms formed a pleasing
accompaniment to bright eyes anid fair
faces. The hall was filled with danc
ers and spectators, all of whom con
tributed to make the affair a success.
