The Ides of November.
To-day will be heavy with the fte
of Liberty inl the Unlited States. Two
great par.les representing utterly
anltagoiistlc opilionls on the fillida
mental principles of the constitution
will wage a desperate contest in
thirty-five States for the mastery in
Federal politics. In a large iumber,
State officers an'd Legislatures will be
chosen, but the great battle is for the
lower House of Congress. If the
Republicans triumph, the constitution
is placed ill - more sei'ious jeopardy
tl'n'ever befbro. If the Democrats
win, the country will be once m11ore
swung round into legitimato chaliuels.
The success of the Democratle party
is of suprelmlle m11olnelt to the S'>uth.
The old lladical leaders are rene;ving
the same crusade that has beeni car
r,1on since the inauguration of the
Abolition party, and time only adds
malignity to their efiborts. Whatever
the Northern Democrats may do0,11upon
the South devolves the imperative
duty of electing solid Congressional
delegations, and capturing the tweh~ e
districts retailned1 by the Radicals in
1870. Upon the peCople of South
Carolina (levolvyes the task of cement
ing the structure raised 1by D)emo
cratic hanids two years ago, so that
no future eilbrt by Radical, Greeni
hacker or anyone else may disclose a
crack or break into which an entering
wedge may be placed. The prospects
are bright all along the line, but
esp)ecially at hlome. Let the rising of
to-morrow's sun reveal a complete
realization of all our hopes.
- A New Crusade.
In their extremity, the Radicals
have thbrown aside all other argu
iments, and (durinig the last few days
of the canvass have again endeavored
to lash the people of the North into
frenzy by thme vilest slanders against
tihe South. No better Democratic
a: campaign documnent can be produced
than a rep)ort of a speech delivered by
the Millligan thief, Blaine, in Phiila
* (delphia on Saturday night. His
maniiifestaitlijr of malignity should
nerve every true son of the South to
~1 51superhulman exertions in order to
defeat the party, which, if sucessful,
will give loose l'eins~ to Uland and
Sherman'ai(d the liko, to omice more
place this section Under the iron heel
of despotismr. Lot every voter r.ead
it, and then go tQ tihe polls .with re
newed purpose of winning a decisive
vicIory. The following is the ex
tract:
