The State fair which wvill be hold for several days in Columbia, begin ning on the 12th of November, should be largely patroniacd by every one in the State. The- fair is the mneIasure of enterprise and progress in any State-the advertismemnt to the world of wvhat the pteoplo can produce. Southm Carolina is peenmlarly blessed in the adaptation of her soil and climate for almost everything that grows; while her mines of metals and her Immense water power speak volumns of wvhat Nature herelf has done for us. Let thme fair' be liberally patronized so that the people may be brought more closely together, and so other narts' lvt- u The Bloody Shirt, The Radicals aire again waving the bloody-shirt lustily ; aud Swails and Sam Lee an11d Snma1Is 111and the other South Carolina fugitive thieves have been taken warmly into the Hadical bosomll. Northern people and North crnx papers have learied long ero this to know that all tire Southern cariet baggers and scallawags who make these howls are consummate liars; and yet they become fraitic over anl alleged outrage without waiting a moment to hear the other side. The truth invariably follows the lie, and the so-Calledll outrage3 dWll(110 into nothing. But tile Northern press howls all the same. The reason is ( that the North is jealous of the grow ing influence of the South, and seizes every plausible lie that can be invent ed. While the South is misrepresenlt ed and maligned, it must be remein bered that the North has an over whellilng m1lajority in Congress, and that the South must therefore beware of solidifying that section against her as it was from 1860 to 1874. We imst be prudent, and furnish no pretext for even the most Captious critic to inveighI agailst. uts. While tile SItt and county elections must be carried, no persecution of' the masses shouhl be allowed. We can vin without that. If' the leading thieves are slapped in the penitentiary, the masses will give no trouble. SELLING OFF! There is a curious story about some native wines which are extensively adverti.-Ad nowa days, and have only recen'tly been put upon the market. Dr. Oinderb, ill, the well-knowni grape-grower of Crotoa Point. died in 1871. .Some of lilt heirs entertained temperance v'iews of such extreme kind, (lhat they wecre unwillIng to allow the stock of wines then on hand to be sold or any more to be made. 'Ilhe grapes have sometimes been sent to market, and sometimes left to decay upon the vines. It is only nowy that the othier heirs have succeeded in arranging for a settlement of te estate and the sale of the wines on hand. Among these is a wine of the vintage of zWi4, described as a "Sweet Union P'ort," bitt suggesting the Imperial Toka y more than any other European wine, an dbeing wholly unlike any ether wilne of American growth. Its pitiny, nge and mellowness are remarkable, and bo0th physIcians and wIne fanciers have a special interest in it as the oldest nahivec wine now accessIble in anv con siderablo q uanit v.
