Gooding's family left Winnsboro on Thursday to join himl in Charleston where he has loeited himself. Mr. Gooding has been a citizen of Wimisboro for a number of eI, duriig which lie made Iimnself generally respected and esteemed, aid his flunily were universal 1avorites. Though regirettintg to Jose thiemi, we wish them good luck in their new home. The primary election is drawing near, and a pleasing feature is that thus fihr no bitterness hits been evolved. Each one of the candidates that we have interviewed is pretty certaii of getting a place on the ticket, and is therefore ill good .spirits. Can't we compromise matters by electing all of them? The colored Democratic club will have a meeting at Mr. John S. Doug lass' shops on tie 5th of October, and all friends of the cause are invited to be )resent. We have been invited to be present, and will endeavor to accept, though the possible failure of making -nominations at the first primary may require a second election on the .5th, in which case cyery D~emnocrat nmust be at his own club to vote. For this reason it might be better to postpone ihe clubi mnecting to a future (lay, or, which might be better, to have another mecetinig, to be attended by those uimnable, for the reason given above, to attenid 0on the day first appoinited. At an early hour the Red Shirts com m1ieniced assembling on the grounds, ner Mr. Thonas Wooten's residence, and it was very evident that not many, if, indeed, any of the candidates hid been seriously in contact with a bee tre or any other tree, as they were nearly all with us. At the appointed hour the iPresident of the Doko Club, Mr. G. P. iotflman, called the meetinig to order, and in a tfew very appropriate remarks stated the object of the meet, ing, and introduced our distinguished fellow-citizen Majo 'T. IV. Woodward, Who in his usual happy and earnest way entertained the audience for a considerable time. Next followed the Candidates for the iegislatu're, Messrs. Pagai, Lamuar, Brice, Clowncy and McKinstry, till of whom made good and stirring Speeches. Wye regret our inability to give the speeches, but they were all good and patriotic, and we think Fairfield will do well to get any of the gentlemen who spoke to replre smit her in the Legislat ire. For the purpose of raising supplies for the year commenoing the first of April, 1878, and ending the first of April, 1879, a taxx for the mums and in the man nor heroinafter mentioned shall be raised and paid into the treasury of the said town for the uso and service thereof, that I; to say: two and one half mills ad valo rml upon every dollar of the value of all the real and persona) property within the corporate limits of the said Town of Winmnsboro; throo dollars to be paid by every male inhabitants of said town, be tween the ages of eighteen and forty-five years, In lieu of working upon the streets of said town; and three per cent. upon the amount of all sales at auction. 2.
