There is a crious story about some native
wines w hich are cxtensively advertised nowa
days, and have only recentlyh been put upon
the i.iiket. Dr. tOnderhill, the well-known
gralpe-grower of Crotont Point, died in 187r.
Some of his heirs entertained temperance
views of such extreme kind, that they were
unwilling to allow the stock of wines then on
hand to be sold or any more to be made.
The gtapes have sometimes been sent to
market, nd sometimes left to (ecay upon
the vines. It is only now that the other heirs
have succeeded in nrraning for a settlement
of the estate and the sale of the wines on
hand. Among these is a wine of the vintage
of 1864, described as a " Sweet Union Port,"
but suggesting the Imperial Tokay more
than any other European wine, and being
wholly unlike any other wine of American
growth. Its ptiritv. age nnd mellowness are
remarkable, and both physicians and wine
fanciers have a special interest in it as the
oldest native wine now accessible in any con
siderable quantitv. The whole stock is in the
fiandr of the well-know\n wholesale grocery
house of the Thurcr5.--dV. 11. Tribune,
Nov. 19, 177..
The above speaks for Itself, but we would
add iat this is the pure juice of the grape,
neither druged, /ijuored nor watered; that it
has been ripened and mellowed by age, and
for medicinal or sacramental purposes it is
unrurpassed. It cen he Pa:n, ! frons mc
