The Ladd Murderers.
As foreshadowved in previous re
ports, time 1Fodoral government has
taken charge of the Ladd murider
ers, Attorney Earlo anid Marmshal
Wallace called on the shoii and
demanded thme pisoners. The
sheriff refused to give them up,
but said that lie would miako ne
forcible resistance. They keys of
the jail wore hanging' ini their
accustomed phaco, and if the Fedoral
ofliis choso to take thme rosponsi
bility they could take t,be prisoner,s.
Therenpon time keys were takeni
down, the cells openeld anid thle
prisoners brought out. They wore
then remanded to the nustody of
thme shoriff, awaiting oi-dors from the
Federal Oironit Court. In this
quiet way, the Federal authorities
have trampled upon the decisions
of a Stato judgne. Rather than
bring on a confliet the State yield
ed. But we hope the ioatter will
imot end there, The esuso should be
a.orried on nnp to the Sta Sprme
Court, junst as if the prisoners wo'rt'o
in the hhands of tho authorities whoso
right it is to have them. Unless
thlis is dlone, the rovenue1 officials
will be guilty of freI violations of
the law, aund their insolence will be
ulnbearll')e.
