New AdvertAsemen:.
} For S.dle- Tohn W. Lyles.
Ftor Sheriff--1iny F''tionds.
Citatitin---O . Thompson.
That was a rousing speech deliv
ered by General Kennedy at Ridge'
way.
R'freshing rains fell in niny
portions of the county on S-lturdy.
Seeral Seotions are still suffering
from drought,
Mr. F. P. Board, of the Kershaw
Gazette, was at Ridlgeway on Sat
urday. He is one of t.he most en
terprising journalists in the State.
Keep the blood pure and the
health of the system will follow.
Dr. Bull's Blood Mixture will ac
complish this in a short period.
Divine services were held eve y
evening lass week in the Mithodi st
church at Ridgeway. The Rev. Mr.
Rogers assisted Mr. Watson during
a portion of the time.
DEAi' or M19s GLAINEY.-Miss
Jemima Gladney died in this coun
ty on Saturday night. She had
been in feeble health for some time.
Her death is regretted by many
friends.
The pulpits of Aimnwell and Ho
rob Presbyterian churches are being
very acceptably filled during the
summer vacation of the Theological
Seminary by the Rev. E. Goldings
Smith. The people of Ridgew.ay
speak of Mr. Smith in high torams.
Private advices from Kershaw are
that Messrs. Leitner, DeSaussure
and.DoPass are candidates for the
Senate, while it is thought the Log
islative ticket, will be General Ken.
nedy, Dr. Nelson and Mr. Clyburn.
The party is harmonions and enthu
siastic. On Friday there was a meet
lug in the upper portion of the
county attended by from six hun
dred to eight hundred persons,
including many ladies.
Sunvivons' MEETIN.--Thd Survi
vors of Companies G and 'H, Sixth
Regiment, S. C. V., will assemble in
the Town Hall at Winnsboro, S. C.,
on Thursday, August 1st, to
perfect some arrangements to attend
a Reunion of the Chester Comlpanies,
to be held at Chester C. H. on
August 15th. A full at tendance is
requested.
S. R. FANT,
Acting Secretary.
July 22, 1878.
THE CONOET.-A concert will be
given on the evening of the 24th,
Wednesday, by the Histrionic Club.
It pr.omises to be a very pleasing
affair. The proceeds are to be de
voted to the benefit of Mount Zion
School. It is needless to call the
attention~ of the .people of Winns
boro to the worthiness of the object.
The School has always been an
advantage to the town, and its suc
cess during the preseut year has
been quite gratifying. A pressing
need exists for better accomumoda-,
tions. Seats for tL.e new rooms can
b's obtained at a' reasonable cost,
and it is to the interest of all con
cerned to aid in procuring them.
With the intrinsic worth of the per
formance and its object, there
should be a hearty patronage on the
part .of the people. The usual
price of admission will be charged.

1:tst report of itea3 to yautr office
from here, a number of things of
nucl interest to this viciiity hl ivo
occired. I will b,gin to recouut
from the firat of tha iu )ilt'l.
On the night of the 2.1, in conso
quence of the closing of Miss Bettie
Mobley's school, there was gotten
uip one of the n-st agrooAble and
orderly dancing parties I over wit
nessed. I mist think th.t ovory
one preso:lt w Is elevated an im
proved by the civility and refine
ment, I tt there prevailo during
the entire evening.
The 0th inst. was fraught with a
variety of interesting occurrences.
There vas a largely attended pic,
nie, which was claracterizod by a
fine dinner and more or less dancing
all d:ty. The Grange had a imeeting
at 9 o'clock in t'lo t n'ain , and
its work w.ts full of mnore than
ordinary interest to the mncmnbers.
There is now being initiat:ld 'nto
its folds some of the promising n.ost
material the community affords.
At 11 o'clock the Masonic Lodge
met, with a good number of its
membership present. At 3 o'clock
the Democratic Club held a meet
ing at the church, with V. P.
Clayton in the chair. Saveral clubs
were represente"l, which added to
the interest of the meeting as well as
to the members. Much earnest
discussion was carrie 1 on, an-l soino
nominations were mt Ldo by the club,
after which it adjourno I to meet
again on S Lturday July 23th, at
3 o'clock, p. in.
Miss C:.tnie Colemn n, one of the
oldest and most belovel Lt".lies of
our seation, dio.l on t 1e ov.Jiuing or
the 11th inst. S'i le Lves, in this
and other States, a large number of
relatives to whom her life was an
honor.
Many of the Feasterville people
were in attentnee upon the
wedding ceremony of Mr. J. C.
Feaster, a notice of which has
already been published.
Pomona Grange No. 10, met at
the Foasterville Grange H dil at
11 o'clock, July 17. All the
subordinate Gran. es in Chester
county were repreientel by a good
number of dologate3. Worthly
Master Bratton, from Wiite Ok,
was also With uis. Tis maaoting I
say with much emphisis f.tr sur-.
p)assed any prior meeting of this
Grange, both in numbers and
interest. Many important subjects
were discussel and acted upon. A
harmonious determination to do
something for the good of agrienl
ture fully mranifested itself in this
body. H.
