A lady took a a treet car at the Brooklyn ferry the other day, and rode contentedly to the bridge. Then she called the conductor in and told him she guessed she was on the wrong car. "Where did you want to go, ma'am I". "To Green point," answered the lady. "Why, this car goes to Greenwood." "Yes 1 Well, I saw the 'Green and thought I was all right." "Yes, ma'am. You saw the 'Green' but you didn't see the 'point.'" A correspondent of the London Times in Northern China, has a grievous complaint. Ice is cheap and coal is dear in winter, ar d he states that the unscrupulous natives give chunks of ice a coating of black lead and sell them for coal. These ice chunks are hidden among lumps of real coal and so it is harder to detect the fraud. Bass wood hams and wooden nutmegs must DOw hide their diminished heads. RAPID CORRESPONDENE.--When a man goes to the theatre for the first time nothing surprises him more than the wonderful rapidity with which an actor writes a letter-un less -it may be the suddenness with which the receiver ascertains its contents. R IORD AN & D A WrSON, I'roprietors, March 80-u, UIIAlI LESTON, 8. C. TOTAL ABSTINENCE SAVlNG WINE TILL IT IPNS. There is a curious story about some native wines which are extensively advertised nowa days, and have only recently been put upon the market. Dr. Underhill, the well-known ap-rwrof Croton Point, died in 187r. 'me ofhsheirs entertained temperance views of such extreme kind, that they were unwilling to allow the stock of wines then on hand to be sold or any more to be made. The grapes have sometimes been sent to market, and sometimes left to decay upon the vines. It Is only now that the other heirs have succeeded in arranging for a settlement of the estate and the sale of the wines on hand. Amen g these is a wIne of the vintage of 3864, described as a " Sweet Union Port," but suggesting the ImperIal Tokay mere than any other European wine, and being wholyunlkeany ohrwn fAeia remarkable, and both physicians and wine rancier have a special interest in it as the oldest native wine now accessible in any con siderable quantity. The whole stock is in the hands of the well-known wholesale grocery house of the Thurbers--N. . Tribun, Nov. 19, 16'77. The above speaks for itself, but we wvould add that this Is the pure juice of the grape, neither dragged, liguered nor v'aftred: that It has been ripened and mellowed by age, and for medicinal or sacramental purposes It is unsurpassed. It can be obtained from most of the leadIng Druggists throughout the United States, and at wholesale from the undersigned, who will forward descriptivo pamphlet, free of charge, on application, Respectfully, etc., B.
