While Mr. Grant is away off in Athens trying to enjoy himself in the company of gunboatsand thingo, the base taxgatherer of Missouri has cast his evil eye and trespassed with his malignant foot upon cer tain lots, tracts, pieces and parcels of land in Jefferson county owned by Mr. Grant, and delinquent as to taxes. In the Hillsboro _Democrat (and no one but a Democrat won! be guilty of, as it were, stabbing tho great soldier in the back) are print ed two orders of publication of suit by the collector against "said de fendant, U. S. Grant," who is ordered "to be and appoar at the term of the court to be begun and hold at the court house in the town of Hills boro, and answer why he should not! pay the delinquent taxes on the aforesaid lots, tracts, pieces and parcels of land."-Chicagao Time$. A HUSBAND MIARKET.--A strong minded woman married a man not noted for activity of body or energy of character, and before the honey moon was over, upon awakening one morning, he found his spouse in tears. "My love," said ho, "what is the matter ?" "O, I've had such a dreadful dream." "Why, what was it ?" "I thought I was going out on Fourth Avenue, when I saw a sign, 'Husbands for sale.' So many wo men were rushing in that I followed, and just then they wore selling a splendid specimen for $1,000." "But did they all bring as much as that?" "Oh, no! They went at $1,000, $500 and so on down." p "Well, did you see any that looked s like me 1" 01 "Yes, indeed. But they were tied up in bunches like asparagus, and sold for ten cents a bunch." A TIMELY DOSE OF SCHIENcK's Man drake Pills is sure to prevent an attack of billiousness, wvhen a short ( neglect of the warning symptoms a may develop a serious case of fever, 6 either billious, intermittent or typhoid. Schonck's Mandrake Pills remove all causes of biliousness, promptly start the secretions of the liver, and give a healthy tone to the entire system. It is no ordinary (discovery in medical science to have found a harmless cure for this stubborn complaint, whlich accomplishes all the results heretofore produced by a free use of calomel, a mineral F justly direadled by mankind, andI acknowledged to be destructive in ] the extreme to the human system. dl That the properties of certain vege- b tables comprise all the virtues of calomiel without its injuri.ous quali./ ties, is now an admitted fact, ren dered indisputable by scientific tests. P Those who uso the Mandrake Pills et will be fully satisfied that the best 4 medicines are those provided by nature in the common herbs and roots of the fields. These Pills open the bowels and pl1 correct all bilious derangementsB without salivation or any of the in- 8' jurious effect of calomol or other poisons. The eretion of magic s: bile is regulated as will be seen by the altered color of the stools, the dlisappearanco of the sallowv com plexmon and the cleansing of the Ample directions for use ac company each box of pills.
