all over South Carolina a reputation
far beyond the necessity of recon,
mendation. As a news journal it
has no equal in the South, and its
political views are in full keeping
with those of the Democracy of
South Carolina. No paper did
better work for Hampton and IToto
Rule in 1876, and there is every
reason to believe that, with in
creased facilities and inore extend..

HOMECIDE AT BLYTHEWOOD.-On
Friday evening, Mr. John M. Hogan,
living near 31ythewood, was shot by
William Boyle, a step-son. He died
that right. Mr. Boyle delivored
himself to the sheriff. The c:rcumu.
stances, as related by several gentle
men of the neighborhood are as
follows : Hogan was repute 1 to
have maltreated his wife and step
children,- having ben incarcera ted
in jail by Trial Justico .l kin on
one occasion for injury to the for
mor. His two step-sons left his

sister left about two weeks ago.
On Friday she sent her brothers to
Hogan's place for a cow which it

Hogan ordered them to let the cow

an open knife, throatoning to kill

There is a curlious story about some native
wines which are extensively advertised nowa..
days, and have only recently boeen put upon
the market. Dr. Underhill, the well-known
grape-grower of Croton Point, died In r87r.
Some of his heirs entertained temperance
views of such extreme kind, that they were
unwilling to allow the stock of wines then on
hand to be sold or any more to be made.
The grapes have sometimes boon sent to
market, and songetimes left to decay upon
the vines. It is onlyunow that the other heirs

but suggesting tha .imperial Tokcay more
than any other European wine, and being
wholly unlike any other wine of American
growth. Its purity age and mellowness are
