Published 'at Luddon & Bates' Southern Music House, Savannah, Ga. *I 1M A SERENADE.-On Wednesday night, the Cornet Band, attended by a large number of citizens, serenaded Judge Hudson at tho Winnsboro Hotel, playing somo specially sweet pieces of music. In response to calls, the Judge ap poared on the porch and delivered a short and graceful address, thank, ing his hearers for the compliment extended to him, congratulating them upon the changed order of things in South Carolina, and pro dicting a still brighter future for her people. The addross wao frequently applauded. A called meeting of taxpayers was held on Thursday evening to nomi, nate a ticket for council. Owing to the press, the meeting adjourned to the court-house. Dr. W. E. Aikon was called to the chair, and Mr. D. R. Flenniken acted as secre tary. In reply to questions, several of the callers of the meeting ox plaiuod that the call had reference to property-holders, and the chair thereupon ruled that only such were allowed to vote. A number of porsons thien withdrew. An olec.. tio was then held by ballot with the following result, a majority of votes being -necessary to a choice i For Intendant-John J. Neil. For Wardens-J. H. Cummings, B. J. McCarloy, J. F. McMlastor, F. Elder. Messrs. McCarley and Elder are on the present council. The nomi nations were made unanimous with on. dissenting voice, and the meet ing adjourned. THE CIRcUIT COURT.-The follow ing is a synopsis of the cases dis posed of in the circuit court since our last report: S. W. Ruff, as Sheriff of Fairfield County, vs. A. W. Ladd. This was an action on the part of the plaintiff to compel the defendant to comply with lxie bid at a certain sale mnade by the sheriff-at which sale the defendant had bid off a certain tract .of land. The defendant demurred to the complaint, on the ground (among others not neces sary to me.axtion) that the sher,if had not legal capacity to sue. After argument of counsol, the judge overruled the demnurro.r, but allowed the defendant to answer over on payment of costs. Colone.1 Rion appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Machey for the defendant. Win. H. K~err, as Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas -for Fair field County, vs. MXar.tha J. Means and Others--proceeding .to fore. close equitable mortgage. Messrs. Gaillard & Reynolds appeared for the plaintiff, and Messrs. The judge granted an order ,directing a sale of the land in ques tion, the proceeds to .be held sub,. juot to he~ fyrther order of the cou rt. The Winneboro Building and L-an Association vs. Robert F. Martin and Others,, proceedings to foreclose mortgage--Mr. Reynolds .for the plaintiff, Mr. Mackey for deo, fendants. Previous to ordering the final adjournment, Judge Hudson expressed his grati-. fication at the pleasant character of his intercourso with the Winns boro bar, and complimented them upon the thorough mnnor in which they had prepared their several cases. James B. McCants, Esq., responded briefly, asc-uring his Honor of the cqnfidence, esteem and appreciation in which ho is held by the bar of Winnstioro, The Judgo replied that he was gratified at the sentiments thus expressed, and hoped always to coumand the con fidence of his bret4roa of the bar.
