One day last week Mr. Edward Courtenay, who resides in the Edisto section of Aiken county,I killed at one shot three wild turkeysi weighing over thirteen pounds each. An incendiary fire at Spartanburg, Pa., on Thursday morning destroy ed every busiless honse in the place, inchiding the Masonic lodge, post ofie and depot. Loss $50,000. The Spartanburg Herald is in formed that it is the intention of the Hon. Peter Cooper to pay a visit to Limestone Springs, the site of his designed institute, probably in April. A negro boy, about four years old, living on the farm of L. M. Cauthens, in L-ncaster county, was so seriously burned by his clothes catching fire, on Monday last, that he died in a few moments. Senator Butler arrived at his home in Edgofield, last week. He tells the A dvertiser that there is not the slightest danger to him or his seat in the Senate from Radical machinations. On Thursday morning last the dwelling-house of Capt. E. T. Hodges, at Hodges Depot, was consumed by fire, together with its contents. The fire was acciden tal and occurred when the family were all absent from home. The county commissioners of Lancaster let out several thousand panels of township fence on Mon (lay last. The contracts were let to the lowest bidders at from thir ty-fivo to thirty-eight cents per panel, and from six dollars to ten doll%rs each for public gates. The c of Mr. W. W. Free man, fiv -, from BRnwell, was dec4royed by 0,re on thw ni,hi of Monday last. Mr. Freeman was fortunate enough to save all of his other property with the exception of some seventy or eighty bushels of corn which was destroyed. Last week two of Mr. G. W. C-onnr's children at Cokesbury we. e bitten by a mad dog, which died with every symptom of hydropho. phobia four or five hours after the children were bitten. No serious results are anticipated. the wounds having healed without inflammation. A negro man shot and killed a negro boy within a few miles of Williamaston, in Anderson county, on Sunday last. He whipped the boy severely, and then went into his house, got a gun and killed him. The mnrderer has not been arrested, The deceased was about twelve years old. On last Sunday a serious shooting affray occurred at Dorn's Mine in Abbevile county, between Thomas H. Lyon and Henry D. Martin, in which both parties were wounded. The shooting resulted from an old quarrel. Lyon was shot through the left lung and Martin in the right shoulder. Eight shots were fired during the engagement--five by Martin and three by Lyon. There are now thirty-five prison era in the York county jail, twenty eight of whom are awaiting trial; one is undergoing sentence of a trial justice, and six are United States pr1isoners. five of whom are undergoing sentence of the United States District Court for violation of the internal revenue. laws and one is awaiting i rial for the same offence. Miss Tabitha Radcliffe, of Abbe.. ville county, committed suicide last week by hanging herself to a raiter in one of the attics of her dwelling. She was about fifty years old, and was in comfortable circumstances. No cause is assigned for her self destruction, except that she was tired of her life-which is repre-~ sen ted to have been lonely and cheerless. John Patterson, who was sen tenced to be hung at Lancaster C. H. on the 5th of April, will p)roba bly have his sentence commuted to imprisonment in the penitentiary for life, as a petition numerously signed by citizens, the members of the bar and a number of the jurors, and endorsed by the presiding judge, has been forwarded to Govt' ernor Hampton to that effect. Mr. Scott McKee, of Newberry 'count y, about forty years of age, shot himself last week with a shot gun, blowing off the top of his head. He made several attempts to- com mit the fatal deed by means of pois.. on, but wvas prevented. -When found dead he had a bottle of arsenic in huis pocket. He was a bachelor, in easy circumstances. He had been drinking recently, and this fact is assigned as the canae of the terrible deed. .. The Anderson Democracy have organized for the campaign. Col. James A. Hoyt, the former county chairman, being now a resident of Columbia, resigned, and Maj. E. B, Murra,y, the talented editor of the Intelhge.ncer, was- chosom~ to fill the vacancy. The greatest enthusiasm and unanimity prevailed.
