SAD AcoIDENT.-Mr. Fenley Rich ardson, who resided in the Buck bead section of this county, was thrown from his horso a few days ago, and suffered injurice from which he afterwards died. The last oxamination for teachers for some time will be held this morning at Mount Zion College, beginning at ten o'clock. Appli, cants should be on hand at an early hour, armed with pencils, as the exnination will consumo six or sevon hours. The following lines vero in scribod on the statue of a negro boy holding up a sun-dial in the Inns of Court in London: "From cannibabt thou jinest in vain L-awyers loss quarter wiil give; Tio firt won't cat you until you are Main The last will do it alive." The oxhibition of Mr. J. Prescott Eldridge on Thursday night was ultogethor a very creditable one. His recitation is really fine especially in "The Bells," "The Dying Boy," "The Maniac," "Little Breeches," "Excelsior," "Jim Bludsoc's Funeral" and some others, In his attempts at mes merism, however, he rather failQd. He will do better to confine him self to reading and recitation--in which he has greatly improved since his first visit to Winnsboro, and in which he is really very far above ordinary. Doubtless, with additional practico, he will have fowv superiors. Dr S. Van Meter, of the Illinois Medical Infirmary, at Charleston, Iliniois, (or some of his assistants) will visit our towni while on his p)rofosHional tour through the South. >' The Doctor wvill be at Morris' Rtotol on the 23rd inst. All who are suf fering with Piles, Fistiila, Throat and Lung diseases, or diseases of a private nature, weuld do well to consult him. The Infirmary was establishied in 1845 by Dr. S. Van Meter, and the many cures turned off from the Infirmary attest the won derful success attained during its thirty years of existence. Remlemn bor the place and date--January 28, MQrris' Hotel, instead of "Comn mnercial H-otel" as shown on the "Journal of Health." Consulta '4ion free. Ady, The FlIorida Veterans. Othe 11th of February, 1836, amaid the firing of guns, the cheers of friends, and the tears of mothers, wives and sweethearts, there set out fr Winnsboro as gallant a set of men as have over responded to tilo summons of their country. A call had been issued for volunteers for the Florida war, and Fairfld resp)ondod so promptly that it was found necessary to rejeet the older mrried men and allow only the younger members to go. The com pany was commanded by Capt. Dorrill Smith. the itenan. bei Thomas Stitt, Wm. McCreight and B. H. Robortson. Jas. R. Aikon, was orderly sergeant, and Robert Baily second sergeant. T. T. Rob ortson was first corporal, 1A. E. Elli son second, Joshua W. Hendrix third, Wo do not at present re member the names of the other non-commissioned officers. The company reached Florida and en tored into a short campaign, having several brushes with the Indians and losing several members from wounds and disease. The dilatory tactics of theIndians, who retired into over glades, rendored the employment of a large force useless, and the com pany, with the other troops, was disbandod after one campaign. That has boon nearly forty, two years ago, and not more than fifteen or twenty of the veterans survive. Tt is proposed that these shall have a reunion in the Town Hall on the 11th of next month-tho anni versary of their departure. This is a good idea, and thero in plenty of time to make the meeting a very pleasant affair, especially if sonjo one will preparo an account of the doings of the company during its term of service. It has also boon suggested that a collation or ban quet might be given to the veterans by the people of the 'Boro or the county on that occasion. This is alo a tiptop idea. After the voterans shall have had the reunion they might profitably engage in business by preparing a memorial to Congress on the subject of pensions, a bill to that effect having already passed the House. We hope that the plan may be carried out, and that the reunion inay be a pleasant affair.
