A FINE Hoa.-Mr. G. B. Dunn has
recently killed one of the finest
hogs over known in this section of
country. Its weight was live hun
dred min sovity-tioven pounds, net,
It was of the Berkshire stock, and

Dunn in the early part of 1873
then about two months old.
Captain Radcliffo, the chief of the
Columbia police, came to Winns
boro on Tucsday with a warrant f(r
Adam Thomas, colored, charged
with having robbed Mr. J. R. Burn
sides of that city a short time back.
The warrant of arrest was issued by
Trial Justice Pickling, of Columbia,
and countersigned by Trial Justice
Miackey, of this place. The prisoner
was taken down to Columbia on
Tuesday afternoon.

majority of the body are farmers,
and that they took this long recess
in order to enable them to make

Education has issued the following
circular letter of instructions:

to the Constitution of this State,
having heen ratified, is published
for your information:
"Thoe Boards of County Commis
sinners of the several counties shall
levy an annual tax of not less than
twvo mills on the dollar upon all the
taxable property in their respective
counties, which levy shall n)ot be
increased unless b)y special enacts
mont of the General Assembly, for
the supp)ort of Public Schools in
their respective counties, which tax
shall be collected at the same time,
and by the same ofilcers, as the
other taxes for the same ycar, and
shall be holdi in the County Treas
uiries of the respective counties, and
paid out exclusively for the support
of Public Schools, as provided by
law.
"T.Lhore shall be assessed on all
taxable polls5 in the State an annual
taix of one dollar on each poll, the
proceeds of wvhich tax shall be ap
plied solely to educational purposes;
.PrduJided, that no person shall- ever
be dleprived of the right of suffrage
for the non payment of said tax.
No other pol1l or capitation tax
shall be levied in the State nor
shall the amount assessed on each
poll exoced the limit given in this
Section. The School Tiax shall 'be
distributed among the several
school districts of the counties, in
proportion to the respetivo numn
ber of pupils attending the Pnblic
Schools. No roligious sect or sects
shall have exclusive right to, or
control of, any part of the School
Fund of the State, nor shall
sectarian principles be ' taught in
tiePublic Schools."

cal ianagemlent of the Free School
Fund. In the fiture teachers will
receive their pay regularly, and it
