A DEmocRATIC Convention will bo held in Charleston on the 20th, to nominated a the nd ald nro. The election takes place on the second Tuosday in Dcmber, and will be conducted undor the new law. Evory voter is roquirod to register in the loction precinct in which he lives, and ho cannot voth except at the place at which ho has registlred, and then only on pro, sentation of his is istry cortificato. THE iurrs of tho trials of Cardozo and Smalls toachos two things: first, that the old Radical ring wore hopelessly corrupt, and the proof of their crines is incontrovortible ; and secondly, that if mctoagogues niod'incendiaris are mnzzld, tli two races in South Carolina can got along in harfony without thinking of race or color distinctions. The colored jurors in teo trialh referred to, saw that the two colored thievs,' Cardozo and Smalls, were guilty beyond doubt, and they hesitated not todsay soc; just a the whites 'on the jury found tho white-thief - Cass Carpenter guilty and agreed to a verdict against him. It would have boon in order, at this jucture, for Messrs. Mlton and Carpenter to mako an impassioned harangue in behalf of the poor, op prossedl whito man. It is doubtful how the Sonato will act, as a test question has not yet peon made in that body. Whether the monetization of silver will benofit or injure oar financos, we cannot say. Learned men are by the ears on this question. Tf the bond-holders suffor, we shall not regret it. They bought bonds during and after the war, when gold was at 140, and the gold value of the bonds was thus only about sixty cents. After they had bought them, Congress, then in the hands of the moneyed rings, enacto that the bonds should be paid in gold, thus voting each bond-bolder a gra tuily of fifty cents for every sixty cents paid. The debt was thus practically increased over live hun~ dred million dollars ; and it is the payment of the interest on this huge amount that is now crippling the country and ruining the people. It is high time that the government shold coaso being run in bohlf of rings and bond-holders. Lot the people have i turni a while at the wheel. Now Grocorloss S T0.
