from his recent illnoss, and is pre

promptly, and at the lowest cash

The ews and Courier announces
that the South Carolina Railroad
will make close connection with
the Greenville and the Charlotte
road. Tho train will leave Charlos
ton at 5, a. in., and reach Columbia
at 11, a. in. This will insure the
delivery in Winnsboro of the
Charleston papers on the evening
of their day of publication.
George Lewis, a well known col
ored man in Winnsboro, was sitting
on the fenco by the big gully on Gully
street, Wednesday night, listening
to services in the colored Baptist
church near by, when he fell back -
wards into the gully a distanco of
about thirty feet. He was picked
up, speechless, and died on Friday
evening. He had been subject to
occasional fits, and it is not known
whether he was thus attacked or was
merely asleep when he fell.

The caso of lTobert Sinalis was
submitted to the jury on Saturday
Cvening. Snalls, it will be emi .
bored, is charged with having ac
cepted fron Joe Woodruff a bribo
of live thousand dollars to vote for
a certain bill giving the R:publican
Printing Coipany a largo sum of
money. A special tele-ran to TiHi
NEws AND HERA.D, 1cOivCd on Mon
day evening, says: "The jury re
turned a verdict of "Guilty" against
Snalls yesterday morning. The case
of L. Cass Carpenter has been in
progress to .day, nid it will proba.
