Mr. Rabb is it young 111111 cf promlise, and will prove an UCliu'SitiOll to the causo in which he has enlisted. The case against the Iloymans, in Clhester, for the alleged stealing of one thousand and fifty dollars fr:om tho trunk of a clerk in Mr. Heyman's store, amounted to nothing. The frand jury returned no bill-a COmpleto vindiention of the accused. CAtpt. U. A. G:illard hasi returned from Cohunhia, whero he had been in attenidanco on the meeting of the committee to involigal the pelnal and chlarita.bla institutions of the State. WXith their skill we presume that fivo years will be amplle time for them to teach all of their brother convicts. Attention is called to the advor-' tisemnent of Messrs. Jones, Davis & Boukn ights, 0of(h Colmblia, pub)li shled j in this issue of THE~ NE:wS AND Hut - ALo. This house is already so well and wioly known that it is p)erhaps uselesa to say anything for it. Its j stock is now fuller than ever, and no dloubt every variety of taste can be suited. The Gordon Light Infantry is drilling regularly, so as to be in trim for the inspection on WVodnes day. Of course there will be nothing like a drill or parade on that occa sion. Troops without armse cannot be expeted either to take interest or to attain proficiency in the drill. As long as tho State government is ~4 unable to furnish arms,l tho "Vol unteer State Troops" can do but little. Co-'rox 19 DEhLAwARE.--We ex'tract from the Milford (Del.) News and A docertiser' the following item: James Aiken, immigrant to this locality from South Carolina, has a very handsome patch of cotton growing on the Richardson farm iat Houston. Much of it wvill ripen and make a good yield provided frost does not come on before the middle of this month. He says it. appears to grow as large hoi'o as in Carolina. A stalk brought to this office was four and a half feet high, with twen ty large branches, and contained seventy.-six large bolls of cotton. It was the largest specimen of the plant ever seen in this locality. The James Aiken referred to in the artice is a colored man working on the land of R1ev. Willard Richard son, our present school commis sioner. The Adjutant and Inspector Gen eral has disb)anded1 the negro militia company of Aiken, having been ros quested to (d0 so by jts captain, Peter Waggles.
