Rub up your fusee, boys, and learn to swing round like a gate. A very haavy rain visited Winns - horo on Monday afternoon, the 16th inst. Some damage was done to hrubbery. The irain appears not o have been so heavy in the coun ry. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNI.-We are 'equested to state that if the weather .hould prove unfavorable or the ,round be too damp to morrow, the .icnic of the Presbyterian Sunday ichool will be postponed for one week-until Friday, the 28th inst. The Independents and Seventy, sixes (juniors) began a game of ball on Monday afternoon, but rain die.' persed them before the fifth inning, at which time the Seventy.sixes were two scores ahead. This is the see, ond game the rain has stopped. The colored clubs of Wiqnsboro and Camden played a match game of ball on the College green on Tuesday afternoon. The former won by a scor6 of 87 W 20. No&Iasher & 0o. advertise general groceries, crackers, oat meal, etc. THE RDUuoTIoN or WAes.--The Columbia .R?egister states theat it was in error in its announcement, to the effect that the wages of the working men on the Charlotte, Columbia & Augusta Railroad were to be re duced ten per cent. oni the 1st of October, and adds in explanation : "We undersutand that the pay of the laborers is not to .be interfered with. The only change that wifi be made, will be a slight reduction in the case of four foi Ave e4ployeg, which reduction will only equalize 'thehf wages with those of similar em ployes on a connecting road. We understand that the road is doing well, and anticipates ,a large busi floss during the coming winter." ALMOST A1x AOOft.Sogme wretch, bent opi mis@lef, placed a few days ago an dbstruction on the railroad traa,k, and, 1but for its time, ly removal, there would have boon a sorioua accident. A rail was stuck firmly under one of the "stringers," and pointed in the direction of the next-coming train. Had the train come, of course it would either have boon thrown violently from the track, or would have torn up the "stringer." In either event a serious smash-up would have resulted. The obstruc tion was discovered by Mr. D. R. Flonnikon, and by him communi cated to the section-bands in time to avoid any bad consequences. HAYEs INVITED TO COLUMBIA.-The following invitation, from the mayor and a committee of aldormon of Columbia, was recently sent to President Hayes : To the President of the United State, f'remont, Ohio: The undersigned, a committee of (the City Couneil of Columbia, S. C., were appointed at a regular meet ing of Council, held on the evening of the 11th inst., to tender to the President and Cabinet an invitation to visit our city, the capital of the State of South Carolina, on their trip South. Apart from the pleasure it will afford us as citizons to meet the President and his Cabinet and to extend to them the hospitalitios of the city, we bog to assure you that the invitation now extended meets with tho hoarty good wishes of our entire communi - ty. We believe that the present is an auspicious timo to be honored by a visit from the President, and that it will tend to promote frater nal feelings between the citizens of the various States of the Union.
