ACCOMMODATIQFN FIUTDAV. For Columbia, 7.38, P. M, For Charlotte, 10.45, A, U The first bale of cotton of the prespt season was brought to Winnsboro on Wednesday by Mr, W. R. Garrison, and sold to J, F, M1cMaster & Co., at 10 cents. The Western "Union Telegraph Company has recently made great redntione in ita chargq for send ing telegrams. Messages that have heretofore cost thirty, thirty-flve or forty ccnts, are now reduced to twenty-five cents. We call special attention to thp ron)mnpicatjon of fFairfield," 01] the matter of tho proposed QOorge town and Chester railroad. Thiq is a subject iij which qur p9oplo arq bound, in simple self defence, to take an active interest. We shall publish more on the sajne subject at another G'me. The Register mentions that Woodruff and Jones-the "Republi, can Printing Company"-have turn ed ovp to the State a large ainouni of property, to make reparation for t-ho immense losses they imposed on the honest people of South Carolina. The property is valued by Jones and Woodruff at $3,000, 000, but is said to be aetually worth about $100,000. It consiets of reaj and personal property, Woodruff and Jones have left for the North. Thie Special Election. The election on tho 4th inst. passed off, on the whole, very quiet ly. There was a fill turnout of the whites, and they voted solidly f9r the Democratic ticket. The negroes were also out in f4li force, but Pcattered their votes, large nut4bers of them voting the whole Democratic ticket, njany "PcratchiDg" the Iadi cal ticket, and Inny more remaining at home and taking no active part in the election. At somo points there was danger of a conflict, but no serious trouble followed. At Monticeljo, a 11,adioal negro under, took to abuse and intimi4dats a col cred Democrat, and had his head eracked fQr his pains. At the Jenkinsville box, some of the negroes were insolent, boisterous and'threat ening, but the coolness and readi.. ne of the whites preyented a diffi oulty. At Winnsboro, a white man and p. negro gotfrom words to blows aboQut a purely private matter, when Wyash L.ee, a notoriously bitter ne gro, undertook to interfere and he had to je taken off. In this case, too, the forbearanen of the whites prevented 41) outbreak. Of course, the Denmocrats carried the day. Tlmy had everything on their side .-a united organization, a strong set of candidates, and badly demoralzed opponents. From this time Fair field will bo ruad by men of her own, true to her, and true to all the Interests of. ,all her peoplO, Radi, ealismn and "Niggerdomi," the twin children of Reconstr-uction, are dead-dea4 bpyond the possibility of resuri'eetion.
