DEMOCRATIC TICKET.
FOR CLERK OF COUIRT,
W. H. KERR.
FOR COUNTY ('0MM isSIC N .RH,
R. E. ELLISON, SR.,
JOHN A. HINNANT,
CORNELIUS -B. MEANS.
A "crim"''s' 'ti'nEr.," will be found
in our aivertising coluuns. Cap
tain Clowney has expressed his de
teriniuation b'ot.h before and since
the conven.tion to abide its action,
and not to accept oflice OXcept
through the regular nomination.
Captain Hinnant is the Democrat ic
nomineo. Undor the resolution, ho
will accept oflico if elected by tho
Democrats, and not t horwi.ic
The bringing out of such a ticket
is extremely unfortunate. 1t can
not be regarded by i)emocrat;. as
the part is pledged to Esustain~ the
nominations. The club bound the
party, aid all who took arny part in
the selection of delegates, and all
who desiro tiro victory of Democratic
principles, must abide by the action
of the convention. The light is for
the supremacy in the State of Do
Imocracy and unity, or of Radical
ism and ruin. There can bo no half
way grolnd. Every man must look
to the futuro and weigh the con -
sequenece 'We hope the "citizens'
ticket" will be withdrawn. Let the
Democratic party' tan( shoulder to
shoulder as it did last fall, when
all personal preferences were merged
.in an cffe:rt for the general good.
Fairfield cannot go -back upon her
record.
Our Candidates.
The Democratic criuiididaites nomi.
nated on Saturday will prove wor~
thy servants of the peoleF.
Mr. W. -Hopkins Kerr, tihe nomi
no for clork of court, is al sm of
the lato Win. Kerr, and was born in
1840. Aftor preparatory training,
lie ontored the State Military Acade
my and took a good stand, but left
the senior class at the breaking out
of the war, and volunteered in the
Buckhcad Guards which formed a
portion of the splendid old Sixth
Regiment. In tile battle of Seven
pines, Mr. Kerr lost his left arm,
and wvas incapacitated from 'further 1
service. Returning home, lie on.,
gaged in planting. At tihe (lose of
the war is~ property w~as swept
away, but lhe wont to work mnfi'ully.
In 1874 his dwelling house with its
entire contents was destroyed by
fire, the family barely' escaping.
Last year he was nominated for
- county commissioner on the Demno
cratic ticket, but ,with the rest of
the ticket was defeated.
Mr. Kerr is a young -man, -grown
up in a .time 'when the Democrats
took noe piu't ini polities, and for that
reason is nlot-'so generally known as
older muon, but he is popular in his
section of the county. He
will make an efficient and piopular
clerk of the court, while the people,
by electing him, will showv an appro
c intliion of the sacrifice lie has made
for his.country in the less of a.limnb
in her defence.
For tho-board of county commn-is..
i'-ioners, was first nominated, by ac
-elamnation, Cornelius J2. Means, col.
ored, of Rtidgeway. 'This was a
most commendable act, both asa
'stroke of fine policy in according
rep~reswitation to thle colored p~eople,
I. ~ andl as a reward of patriotic devo -
.tion in -this particular -Jistance.
Last year, when the fate of South
Carolina was 'trewnbling in the bal

'drawn more setrictlybotween deconi
