Remember the old folks' concert which comes off on Tuesday. Brother Selby, of the P/uoni', Iis becomo a convert to "patent outsides." Next! W ild plums and spring chickens are in the market, but scarce and high. Cherries cheap and abundant. All the signs indicate that the town will have a severe and protracted, attack of base ball this summer. In fact it is likely to becomo ep)idemic. The only school clai ins that can be paid out the "impounded" fund are those contracted between October, 1873, and November, 1874. The base ballers had their first practice on Tuesday. The club will be better this year than ever. Sev. oral challenges and invitations have been sent to clubs in neighboring townit No rain yet. Some weather.. prophets say we will have it by Sunday. Wo do not claim to be a prophet, but we feel safe in pre dicting that it will rain in the next thirty days. EAST CHESTER (3iacUrr.--Wa are requested to publish the following appointmeuts for religious service in the churches named : Bethesda-First Sunday-Rev. W W. Williams, 11, a. in.; third Sun day, Rev. J. W. Kelly, p. m. Mt. Moriah-First :Sunday, lby W. W. Williams, 3, p. n.; thiird Sunday, Rev. J. W. Kelly, 11, a. m. We have heard it kuggested that I the Gordon Light Infantry, Hamp tou Rifle Guard, and the dreenbrier Rifles, the only three military infan try companies in our county, might unite in the formation of an indepenlent battalion. The sug, gestion strikes us a good one. These companies are accessible to! each other, and their union wvould doubtless conduce greathy to their mutual welfare. We commend the matter to the consideration of those interested. - An interesting meeting of the Mt. Zion Society was held on Tuesday. * The committee on repairs and furnui ture made their report, and the Society determined to make the improvements. Mr. James B. Mc Cants donated a globe, and the Society purchased maps and pr~ovi dea for the repairs on the building. The masons will set to work imme diately. This timely action of the * Society is wise, as the repairs re quired are not extensive now, but are necessary to prevent considera ble damage to the building. W~e are pleased also to note the reviving interest taken in Mt. Zion. The success of any institution des ponds to a large amount upon the interest its patrons take in it. [coMiUuNzcATED.] The Salary Gr'ab. A gentlemen of the legal fraterni ty suggests that, as-South Carolina has much land and very little money the patriotic Senators be paid in land, eight hundIred acres (and a S mule) to each Senator. It is to be hoped that we will mhave better men in the Senate, after the next election, than such as prove by their conduct that they are in fluenced by self interest and not by the public good. REF"ORM. l'o the Citizens of Fairfleld County. I announce myself asi a candidato for the office of Clerk of the Court for Fair. hold county. The following are my reasons for soeking the ofil.e; I have a largo family to support, aiad children to educato by miy own efforts. I lost an arm in the service of my country, and the office would at least be a great help to a man in my situation. So if no other man offers, whose claims are better, and you will elect mo I promise to fill the office honestly, and to the best of my ability. juno 2-tf It. H. JENNINGS. LIVER CURE. N OW is the season when the Liver be. comes torpid, refuses to do its share of work, and causes distress to the human system. Take Simmons' Hepatic Con. pound or Liver Cure -md all will be well. The old adage, "Prevention is Better than Cure," cannot be more practically illustrated than now when the sickness usual at this season can ho prevented by the use of SIMMONS' HEPA'I'1C COM PuIUNI), which, by removing the bile, cleansing the stomach and bowels and purifying the blood, enables the syste I to reject :aalarial poisons and gives tone and strength to the whole body. SIM MONS' HEPATIC COMPOUND is all Vegetable, perfoctly barmnless and won derfully effective: can be used at. all times and at all ages, and dtoes not interfero with one's daily puirsuits, but on the con trary, enables us to pursue them with renewed vigor. It is simpler, better and cheaper than any similar preparation ever offered. For sale by W. B. AixEN, MCMAsTEI & BIUCE. Winboro, S. C. It. W. UnicE" & Co., Woodward's, S. C.
