Read the list of managers of cloc.
tion published in this paier.
Col. Win. Johnson has been re
elected, without opposition, as
mayor of Charlotte. A most excel -
lent choice.
Dicey Ruff, an old negro woman
living in the Long Run section of
this county. died a few days ago.
She was bielieved to be. at the time
of her decease, one hundred iid
four years of age. She was a
native African.
THEII H'ios-one Ex-ranr.:rF\r.-A
large and appreciative audience
greeted the theatrical perforlnance
of the Histrionic Club on Tuesday
night. The songs, tableaux, and
plays were well selected, and credit,
ably rendered. The "woman's rights"
burlesque brought down the house,
and was a happy hit. The in u;' for
tL.e occasion was furnished by
the mnateur string band,
and was by no means an unimipor
taut feature of the entertainment.
The entire performanee passed oft
very nicely, and the managers have
reason to be proud of the success of
their efforts. Rofreshmnents were
served by a committee of the Wonen's
Christian Association for the benefit
of the Young Mun's Christian Asso-,
Ciationi.
SUMME5 Atims:m':rs.-We are
ple.ased to learn that the p~lay of
"Kathleen Mavournecen" will be pre,
Bented to the public about the id..~
die of next month. A select comn.
pany of ladies and gentlemen have
it in charge, and with good scenery,
recently obtained, hope to give the
community one oif the bes amateur
performances they have ever wit
niessed. The same management ex -
poct to get up oilier theatrical enter
tainmnenthi during the summer and
fall, the objec!t being to raise a fund
to assist the rifle company ini pro
curing uniforms.
It is also in contemplation to have
~n Old Folks' Concert some time
purming the month of July. This is
somethiing novel in this community,
ndwill no doubt prVovo very enter
7*aining. These concerts havo b-e 1
riven in other plac(3s, and are
~pokon of as affording much amuse
nont and enjoyment.
