A few nights since, an amateur -ehoral union in town serenaded a young clergyman who intends shortly to sever his association with our community, and respond to a call of duty elsewhere. The next morning the minister sent to the union a handsome bouquet of flowers accompanied with the following verses: I stood at my window near midnight, As I listened to voices below, And their music with magical might Boro me back into years long ago. I wandered, a boy, with my mother, And joyed in my childhood's dear home; I played with my sister and brother. And welcomed each joy as 'twould come. I sauntered with one "in the starlight--" O halcyon hour of youth! And raad in her eyes as they shone bright, The depths of heart's happy truth. Then "whispering hopo"nerved my spirit, And bore me along for awhile, Till hope lost its whispering merit, And left me with none to beguile. O voices, dear voices of midnight, In dreams may you oft wake to find You have visited homes in the starlight, That never can fade from your mind. And when o'er your life's plodding path way, Dark shadows of sorrow shall move, May whispering hope sing of bright days, In the home with your Saviour above. 1.NOTIOE.
