I' RECEPTION TO HAMPrTON.-Arrangen ments have been made in Columbia S for a grand reception of Governor ~. Hampton on. his return to that city on Friday afternoon. The military companies and civic societies wvill particip~ate. A committee of citi zens will go to Charlotte and escort thie governor home. The railroads K will sell excursion tickets at greatly redneed prices. The play of Richelieu will be per formed in Charleston on th4 17th inst., by a company of amnateurs for a charitable purpose. The cast is said to be very strong, and the cos-. tumes are those worn at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in New York during Booth's engagement. It might be of advaantage to endeavor to prevail upon this company to visit Winns, boro, as somethiig of the sort is much needed here by pleasures ALL rIon.-The following tele gram was received at Columbia on Monday afternoon : WAsHINoTON, April 2. HON.W. D. SIMPSoN:-Everything is satisfactorily and honorably settled. I expect our people to preserve abso lute peace and quiet. My word is pledged for them, and I rely on them. WADE HAMPTON. The annual session of the Grand Lodge of Good Templars will be held at Spartanburg on Tuesday, the 24th inst., at 10 o'clock, a. m. The meeting was first fixed for Nowberry, but, in consequence of the recent disastrous fire at that place, a change has been deemed proper. Tenplars will govern themselves accordingly. A Northern exchange gats off the J following saucy squib : lampton says he "likes Cham berlain personally," and Chamber lain protests that he "likes Hampton personally." How amply would the President's policy be vindicated if each potentate should discover the strawberry mark on the left arm of the other, and the twain should rush together in a fratern-l hug. MOUNT Zion INSTITUTE.-The trustees of Mount Zion Institute have elected Mr. R. Means Davis Principal of that "acadeiny. The school is more prosperous than it has been for several years, and with the new order in politics will doubt less continue to grow. Mr. Davis has had considerable experience in teaching in this and other States. The exercises will continue without any interruption. 1W- We would request that cone tract advertisements be changed either in Tuesdiy's or Satur day's issue-that is, the copy should be handed to us on Monday or Friday morning. The labor involved in getting off our weekly edition causes us to be somewhat pressed for time in getting out Thursday's issue. We are of course always ready to change advertise ments, but it will be an accommoda tion to us if our contractors will remember and observe the sugges tion above made. It has been been announced that Governor Hampton will leave Char lotte to-morrow morning at eight o'clock on a special train for Colum bia, and that special rates will be allowed those who wish to accom pan him to Columbia. The time at which the train wvill reach Winns boro is not given definitely. The wvhole town should turn out to give the old hero a rousing reception especially as his whole journey to Washington and back has been a perfect ovation. A patent medicine man out West has proposed to advertise with us, offering as pay therefor a gross of his Patent Purgative Pills. We will therefore be prepared to go into the prize business, and as chromos are playing out, will offer a box of Patent Purgativq Pills tb every new subscriber, between now and the first of June.
