serious damage was done.

Mr. Harv cy Terry, wvho hlas ac
quired consi dorablo notoriety as a
s peculator in bills of the different
banks of thlis State, was in WVinns,.
boro on Tuesday andl Wednesday.
He was in attendance upjonl a
referouco hleld by Jameos E. H Lgood,
Esq., clerk of the United States cir
cuit court, for the purpose of ascer
taining the genuineness, date of
issue, etc., of a large amount of the
bills of the old Blank of Fairfield
held by Mr. Terry. A number of
cases hlave already been decided
in the courts against him. In his
present effort, all our sympathy is
with the stockholders.
Governor Hampton hlas begun the
organlization of tile militia, by com
missioning tile officers of the two
rifle clubs, the cavalry and the
artillery club of Columbia. Thlese
clubs were disbanded by President
Grant, in response to the libelous
charges preferred by Ohambierlain.
By this act, Governor Hampton re
stores to these organizations the
right of assembling for drill. These
rifle clubs displayed great proficien
cy in the manual and tactics, and
were ani honor to Columbia. Their
rehabilitation is a cause for congretna
lation.
