Hot Springs, Ark., Nov. 28.—At his
request, Pan! A. McDonald, a solici
tor in the employ of a local newspa
per. was assigned to room No. 23 last
night. A few minutes later the guests
were attracted by heavy breathing in
the room, and when •-attaches of the
hotel entered McDonald was found un
conscious. having swallowed thirty
grains of morphine. His death oc
curred several ‘hours later.
McDonald, whose home was in At
lanta, Ga., was 35 years of age, and
had served as a lieutenant in the sig
nal corps of the United States army
during the Spanish-American war. As
to the cause of the suicide nothing
can be ascertained.
He was the son of Rev. Mr. McDon
ald. who was for nearly eighteen years
the pastor of the Second Baptist
ohurch Atlanta. He is survived by
his mother, three sisters, and two
brothers, one in Mexico and the other
i in California.

Judge Silas Hare Dead.
Waahlngton, Nov. 28.—The funeral
was held here yesterday of former
Representative Silas Hare, of Texas,
a Mexican war veteran, a distinguish
ed Confederate soldier, judge and law
yer, who died at his home in this
city yesterday. Judge Hare, as he
was popularly known hare, was 81
years of age and had served in the
fiftieth and flfty-flrat congresses. In

International Laymen’s Missionary
Meeting.
Atlanta, Nov. 27.-One of the larg
est religious gatherings ever held in
Georgia the slate meeting of the In
ternational laymen’s Missionary Move
ment of North America, in Atlanta on
December 3, 4, 5 and 6. Delegates
from every church in the state have
been named, and besides the large
number of people from other states.
The movement was organized No
vember 15, 1906, in New York city by
a representative group of business
men of every denomination.
The meeting open Thursday even
ing, December 3, with a dinner at the
Aragon hotel. Ex-<Jovernor Northen
will preside and after-dinner addresses
will be made by J. Campbell White,
of New Turk city, and Rev. Dr. James
L Vance, of Newark, N. J.
Three daily sessions will be held on
FYiday and Saturday in the First Bap
tist church. A mass meeting for men
will be held in the Bijou theater at
6 o’clock Sunday afternoon. At 7:30
o’clock in the First Baptist church
there will be a farewell mass meet
ing.

Hot Springs. Va., Nov. 28.—Presi
dent-elect Taft’s announced position
in favor of a thorough tariff revision
is being approved in a correspondence
which is developing to the amount of
more than a hundred letters a day.
Mr. Taft’s determination in this re
spect continues and the trend of re
cently expressed sentiment Is most
