Ringling Bros. Expected to Draw
Crowds from Gaffney.
The circus seems to be the pop»-
lar topic of conversation these days
and many are making arrangements
to visit Spartanburg when Ringling
Brothers exhibit there on Saturday,
October 17.
The splendid new parade at 10
o'clock in the morning, the gretly im
proved menagerie, a brilliant intro
ductory spectacle, the sensational
mid-air automoble double somersault
and the greatest European company
of artists ever seen under one canvas
are the features of this year's exhi
bition. which the press and public
of cities where the show has been am
praising to the skies
The Ringling Brothers are cele
brating this season the twenty-fifth
jubilee year of their splendid enter
prise by giving the public a circus
entertainment that exceeds anything
ever done in the past in the way of
amusements. They have searched
the world for novelty, they have ini
ported at great cost the most wonder-
ful European and Asiatic acts, they
have had builded in foreign studios
and shops the finest outfit ever used
by a circus, and they have so enlarg
ed their already gigantic show that
twelve acres of ground are now re
quired for their many tents.
The circus this year numbers 1,-
2S0 men, women and children, fifih
horses. :>0 camels, 40 elephants. 110
cages of animals, X. r > double-length
railroad cars and 300 parade vehicles.
The main tent is the largest ever
built. The great program is given
in three rings, on two stages, in a
vast hippodrome track and in tnn
spacious dome. There are 375 per
formers. 300 of whom are making
their first tour of America under the
management of the Ringling Broth
ers,
In addition to the dangerous and
thrilling automobile double some-
sault act, presented by Miss T.a Belle
Roche, of France, here are a few
other remarkable features never be
fore witnessed in America: The
Great Mirza Golem family, from the
court of the Shah of Persia; the man
from France who walks up and down
stairs on his head; Riccobono and
his "Good-Night” horse, which wears
pants, coat and boots, from Russia;
the pig that skips the rope and
shoots the chuts; the ape that stands
on his head: the twenty-camel team
in the parade, and tffe remarkable
zebra tandem-riding act.

Midway, Oct. 9.—Mr. J. C. Paintor
lias a very sick child.
Mr. Chas. Campbell lias been on
lhe sick list this week.
Mr. B. O. Turner has about com
pleted his beautiful residence in Gaff
ney and will move next week.
We heard the other day that Mr.
Eu. Smith has gone to Wall Street
with a million and half dollars of the
poor old farmers money to boo boo
the price of cotton to fifteen cents.
But it seems now as if he was going
to baah haa it to seven and a half.

Sam. Seven Sisters and Flaw Picker?
1 met the latter on the streets the
other day and behold he has gone
from good to better. He wore a sal
vation badge as big as the bottom
of a dish pan and he had the smile
of a saint on his face. I remember
when Old Flaw used to have tnese
good spells.

pastor at Midway and Rev. Ben
Hoke has been elected pastor for

Company, of Atlanta. Ga., has accept
ed a position as mechanical engineer
for the Cone Mills at Greensboro.
Mr. Smead was transferred from the
Charlotte plant to Atlanta about two)
years ago, and has been with this
company for six years.
C. D. Taylor, who was for some
time an overseer in the Gaffney
Mills and has since been residing in
Union, has moved his family back
to Gaffney, which will be their future
home. Mr. Taylor has accepted a
position with the Victor Shaw Ring
Traveler Co., of Providence, R. I„
and will be on the road the most of
the time. His territory embraces the
Southern States.
