And when they get to sail ing round in space .dropping explos ives down upon the earth, we may expect to hear something drop and go up pretty soon. Edison, the noted inventor, is thinking of making a dash for the North pole. And if he does, he’s apt to be successful, that is, if the pole Is ever to be reached by man. But there is a certain writer—Carolyn Wells, if I mistake not—who says that the pele will never be reached by man. This writer also says that, in case one should reach it, one would be sent whirling Into space the very moment one touched at the centre, where the pole is supposed to be. I do not, however, claim to be an au thority on such matters. Little Miss Janie, daughter of Mr. J. D. Land, is sick at this writing, but was convalescent when last heard from (Tuesday). Mrs. J. G. This onion was hot enough to draw tears from the potatoes’ eyes, and thus they were always watered. The forces and resources on either side is not a subject for discussion now. History will take care of that when it is written by an impartial pen. The Southern soldier today through out the north is a synonym of true bravery and unflinching fidelity. Wherever he goes among the better people of the north he is honored and respected not only for what he is but for what he was. Time and again the Confederate veterans have been invited to hold their reunions In northern cities. The student of history has already learned the contending forces of both sections—north and South—were di vided into three classes: First. Those who got mad and wanted to fight, it out before war was declared. These donned the minute button and cockade and flounted the red flag in each others faces. But when that ill fated em blem of nationality was hoisted over Fort Sumter they got in a good humor and withdrew to safer quar ters. Second. But the trouble with a great majority of the people is to save it after they have made it. No person should live beyond their income; they should not even live up to it. Whoever spends all they make will fill a pauper's grave. No better way has ever been devised whereby a person can save money than through the building and loan plan. You not only save money but you make it, as every dollar you put in begins to earn you something at once. If you are paying rent, stop doing so by buy ing building and loan stock and become your own landlord. Hundreds of Gaffney people can testify how easily this is done. You live in your house while you are paying for it with the rent money you would be paying the landlord. The Farmers and Mechanics Building and Loan will start you on the road to ownership. We loan to the man who wants to buy either city or country property. Call at the office and see our Mr. Gibbs Pridmore, who will explain the plan in detail, or write him for information.
