Brief News Notes and Personal Para graphs Gathered by Our M lron City” Correspondent. Blat ksburs,, Sept. 24.—Mrs. F. A. Reinhardt delighted the “Birthday Club” on last Thursday afternoon. A musical romance was the contest engaged in. The prizes being won as follows: Miss Lunnette Towsend, the guest prize. Miss Lillian Quincy, the consolation, Mrs. Crosby, the booby. The score cards were dainti ly hand painted by Miss Townsend A salad and ice course was served by the hostess. The guests of honor were Misses Lunnette Townsend. Lillian Quincy, Mesdames Bell, Mc- Cubbins, .1. C. Ross, John Scott and Crosby. Miss Lunnette Townsend presided at the punch bowl, serving the guests throughout the afternoon. All voted thanks to the hostess for a most delightful time. Mrs. Claud Jefferies, of Gaffney, and her guest. Miss C. it. Williams of New York, spent last Tuesday here, the guests of Mrs. O. A. Os borne, on Shelby street. Miss Donie Salley, of Orangeburg, is spending a few days here with Mrs. McK. Albergotti, on Carolina street. Mr. W. L. King • returned to his home in Charlotte, N. C., Tuesday after spending about ten days here with relatives. Mr. E. W. Hobbs has about com pleted his residence on Carolina street and will move in next week. It is a very pretty and convenient house and adds much to Carolina street. The 19th Century Club will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. N. W. Hardin, on Pine street. Scott Is author for this month’s discussions. Mrs. W. L. King and children re turned to their home in Charlotte, N. C., Thursday after spending about two weeks here with her mother, Mrs. S. A. Healan. Mr. Cleveland Shepherd is spend ing a few days here with his sister, Mrs. McK. Albergotti. Mr. James Whisonant, formerly of this place but now of Charlotte, N. C., spent several days this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Whis nant, on Pine street. Mrs. W. B. Ollipbant and children left Wednesday for Union to visit relatives and friends for a few days. Mrs. Mary Earl left Wednesday for Gaffney to visit relatives for a few days. Mrs. Chas. Baber and little daught- er, Margarette, spent a few days in Charlotte, N. C., this week with rel atives. Mrs. D. D. Gaston spent two or three days in Gaffney this week and attended the millinery opening there. Miss Effie Hopper is the guest of Mrs. D. D. Gaston for a few days. Miss Vic Mintz, of the Buffalo sec tion, is visiting her cousin, Miss Del la Rhyne. Mrs. Hayden and daughter, Mrs. Canley, went over to Gaffney Thurs day afternoon, shoppng. Mr. A. M. Cross and Miss Nan White drove up to Grover, N. C., Wednesday afternoon. Mr. cross left Wednesday on No. 40 for Wil mington, N. C\, where he will work for the V. C. C. Company’s • plant there. He has been here for two months and made many friends while here who regret very much to see him leave, and hope to have him come again. Mrs. Canley, of Salisbury, N. C., is here visiting her mother, Mrs. Joe Hayden. Mr. E. D. Houser spent Thursday In King’s Mountain, N. C., with rel- ativea.
