EVENTS IN GAFFNEY AND CHER OKEE. : Recent Happenings In end Around the City, and Other Events Gath ered bv the LoaRl Newa Editor.. The work on the new oil mill of the West End section of the city is pro gressing nicely. Littlejohn Bros, have had their store on Limestone street, repainted. This adds greatly to the appearance of the building. The merry-go-round is packing up preparatory, to moving to Piedmont Springs. They will be there for a month at least. Dock Parris, the boy who cut Joe Camp a few days ago was released Friday on $2n0 bond. Joe is getting along nicely. J. W. Abbott has moved his stock of furniture, stoves, etc., into the building , recently occupied by the Gaffney Jewelry Company. Next Sunday there will be a picnic and old time song service at White Plains. Everybody is invited to at tend with well filled baskets. The Gaffney concert band will give a concert at Irene park tonight. A good program has been arranged and everybody is cordially invited. Dr. S. H. Griffith and son, Thomas, have gone to Heath Springs, Lancas- tre county, to stay a few weeks. His office will be closed during his ab sence. There will be an ice cream festival at the Pondfield school house next Friday afternoon for the benefit of the school library. Everybody is in vited to attend. Mr. A. G. Rewmaniss, of Pittsburg, Pa., arrived in the city Saturday night. He is visiting his cousin, S. R. Suber, and may conclude to make Gaffney his home. A. G. Furman, a real estate deal er, of Greenville, was in the city Fri day on business. Mr. Furman says that the town has grown considera bly since his last visit. Saturday, while returning home from the city, the team of John Mill- wood became frightened and ran a short distance, throwing J. H. Ellis out and as a result nearly broke his arm. The young people of the city are requested to meet at the- residence of Mrs. J. V. Sarratt on Thursday evening at half-past eight o’clock for the purpose of reorganizing the Ep- worth League. On Saturday last, R. J. W. Moss, of King’s Creek brought to The Led ger office an old fence rail that had been in service for over sixty years. The most interesting part of it was that it had cut into it the name R. J. W. Love. Many of the older people may probably know Mr. Love. He served in the 5th S. C. Volunteers, .Tenkin’s Brigade, Col. Coward com manding officer. Mr. Love died in a hospital in Petersburg, Va., an March 12. 1863. The rail was found in York county. The name was cut on the rail in 1856. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. “Uncle Sil” Estes, of Etta Jane, was in the city yesterday. “Uncle Sll’’ is about seventy-six years old and seems almost as spry as a boy. W. E. Jefcoat, of Pitsview, Ala., was in the city Saturday visiting his sister, Mrs. L. C. Warmoth. Bassel Pettit, of Ravenna, was a city visitor yesterday. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Lipscomb and Charles, Jr., of Greensboro, N. C., are visiting the doctor’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Lipscomb. Misses Isla and Nettie McKenzie, Dr. and Mrs. David of Marlon, are guests, of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Lip scomb. Mr. tmd Mrs. A. N. Wood leave to day for a week’s stay In the moun tains of North Carolina. Prof, and Mrs. W. S. Hall arrived home yesterday afternoon from Ches ter. Mr. and Mrs. Cree arrived yester day afternoon, to visit Mrs. Cree’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Carroll. M. C.
