The fore part of the week was
warm and dry, the latter portion was
slightly cooler and showery; the sun
shine was about normal.
The mean temperature was nearly
3 degrees above the ) ormal in the
eastern division, and was about, nor
mal in the central and western por
tions. As in the previous week, the
highest temperatures were recorded
in the central portions. The daily
maximum temperatures were in the
nineties in all parts of the State
during the first three days, and were
about 90 degrees, or slightly below,
during the remainder of the week.
The night temperatures were gener
ally in the seventies. The extremes
were 99 degrees at Dillon on the 19th
anti at Bowman. Klko, Newberry and
Santue on the 21st, and 66 degres at
Liberty on the 20th.
The rainfall was not well distributed.

ample precipitation, ranging from one
to over two inches; portions of the
western ebunties also received from
one io nearly two inches, while the
central portions and the immediate
coast sections received generally less
than half an inch, and a few localities
received none. A general rain would
prove beneficial, especially in the
central counties, and in the coast,
region: where the drought is severe.

much money it may waste; desolated
States and nations touch no chord of
pity in its breast, the killing of
human beings is as nothing to it; it
might have to wade through blood—
but what of that? Onward and up
ward it must go. but it is never satis
fied. I believe this is a fact which
history proves, if it proves anything.
And it does prove that the only way
to judge of the future is by the past.

music, by the Yorkville cornet band,
plenty of dinner, lemonade and coca-
cola, and no fighting that I heard of.
Considering the size of it, I think it
was a very well behaved crowd. Clo
ver and Falrview baseball teams play
ed a game in the afternoon, but the
result was a tie, so I don’t know
which team Is the better of the two.
We remained on the ground until it
was all over, and got rained on com
ing home. But we had been at the
picnic, so we didn’t mind the wetting.
