Fowler, one of our Rood farmers, banded us a cot ton bloom last Saturday. John Is a bustler and his cotton crop is very fine. A large amount of Jobu's cot ton is waist high. M. \V. Brown spent some time in (Jaffnev last Saturady. Wilkes’is one of Cherokee's leading merchants and is as friendly and obliging a gentlo man as you can find anywhere. .Mr. and Mrs. c. E. Smith, of Thick et y, were visitors in the Goueher set tlement last Saturday and Sunday. Mr. “Quit” Wilkins, of Goueher, was in twon last Saturday. Miss Addie Brown entertaind the little Sunbeams at Goueher last Sat urday evening. Nice refreshments were served and the little folks en joyed a pleasant evening of pleasure. M. W. Brown has returned from a short visit to .lonesville. One of the little Sunbeams after returning from the entertainment, re ported that they had two kinds of ice c ream—hot and c old. Miss Pauline Pettit and brother, Charles, attended the Cedar Springs exercises last week. Lafoy. Pettit has returned to his home at Gaffney after a pleasant visit to relatives here. Mr. S. S. Littlejohn and sister. Miss Hattie, spent last S*inday at Pacolet, visiting relatives and friends. Mr. E. F. Littlejohn spent last Sun dae with his son. Mr. Cameron Little john, of Pacolet. Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Clary and child ren, of Gaffney, are visiting relatives here for a few days. C. O. and Howard Horn, of Paco let. visited our Sunday school last Sunday afternoon. Misses Fannie and Eunice Smith and brother. Ebbie, and B. W. Brown, Mason Bonner and Claud Lipscomb, of (lonelier, attended our Sunday school last Sunday afternoon. Our superintendent, Mr. T, C. Green, who lias so successfully con ducted our Sunday school for the past year, resigned last Sunday and next Sunday an election to fill his place will take place. Our secretary and treasurer, T. E. Burgess, has al so resigned and his place will he also filled next Sunday. We predict a re- election for Mr. Green. Miss Ella Brown who was quite sick when we wrote our last letter, is up and about again ro the pleasure of her many friends. Miss Addie Brown, the Baraca teacher here, attended the Woman’s Missionary Convention at Cowpens last week. Prof. Chalk, w ho lias been’confined to his bed for about two weeks, was able to attend the Goueher services i last Sunday morning. The annular eclipse of rhe sun on Sunday morning was observed by a large number of our people. Smoked , classes were seen on nearly every hand and the eclipse of the sun re called to mind the total eclipse of the sun about seven years ago. Quite a crowd of our young people attended the commencement at Ce dar Springs last Wednesday. We know Mr. DeCamp, the friend of we correspondents, will give the Press Association a glorious time this week. We hope everything will lie pleasant and that the pencil push ers will he well received at Chero kee’s capitol. The .' filing people of Hiis place and i Goueher are arranging for a big pic-; j nic to he pulled off af Goueher some time in the latfer part of July. It w ill be an old time country picnic and ' it is being planned to have some of i the candidates present and make j some speeches. We are not able, hotfever, now to name the speakers i and date, but we will later on. M. W. Brown lias the honor of being the | first one to start the above. Rev. E. C. Hickson, of Union, spent . last Monday with J. ('. Brown and family. Mr. Hickson's many friends here are always glad to have him with them. Misses Irene and Maggie Foster | and Messrs. J. The crops in this section are generally good except where the hail j storm struck them a few weeks ago. i The Southern had a very bad wreck at tow-pens last Saturday night, damaging two engines and the track considerably.
