The Ledger force is indebted to

tises are appreciated.
A large audience greeted Allen’s
Minstrels in their big canvass theatre
at the corner of Second and C street,
southwest last night. Everybody
seemed well pleased.—Post. Washing

A Good FPlIow.
Last week we took occasion to al
lude to Sam Sarratt’s white vest and
frequent visits to North Carolina. We
have since learned that he has affect
ed kid gloves and commenced to oil
his hair. Clint Robbins, of The Led
ger, is responsible for the report that
he saw S. Q. on the train not very
long ago and that he was dangling an
infant on his knee in order to rest
the tired mother. Sam has a heart as
big as a baby elephant. He Is every
inch a man. His word is his bond
and no man can say aught against
him. Some day he is going to make
some good w r oman say “Yes” or "No”
and whenever he pops the question if
the answer be favorable, and we hope
it will, he will do all in his power to
make her happy for life.

spent the winter of two years ago in

mans’ Club was instrumental in se
curing this valuable gift.

Austell the corner lot on the A. A.
Sarratt home place. Mr. Austeel will

Hon. Thos. J. Murray, of Madison

Jake Montgomery, an old time
darkey, came in to see us Tuesday.
Jake is a constant reader of The Led
ger. He was once counter a "bad
nigger,” but he became tired of row
dyism years ago and is now as re
spectable as any colored man in the
county. We have a kindly feeling
for old Jake.
At a meeting of the directors of the
Merchants and Planters Bank held on
June 24th, the regular 4 per cent semi
annual dividend on the capital stock
of $75,000 was declared payable July
1st. This bank was organized in
1901 and this is their fourteenth divi
dend.
