Joint Pythian picnic at Irene Park Much Enjoyed- The joint Pythian picnic on Tues day between Whittaker and Lime stone Lodges at Irene park, was one of the most delightful social events that has ever taken plpce in Gaffney. The Blacksburg contingent, some thirty strong, arrived on train No. 39, and were met at the depot by a com mittee who conveyed them to the park in automobiles. Soon the lovely little park was filled with the beau ty and chivalry of Blacksburg and Gaffney, the young people occupying themselves in boat riding on the lake, and lawn tennis, the older ones en gaging in conversation and taking pleasure in the enjoyment of the I young. At 1 o’clock a committee of | Indies arranged, under the shade of | the trees, a most excellent lunch, j The fragments that were left would ' easily have fed a hundred people. At 4:3a the company repaired to the : baseball park where the Blacksburg I and Gaffney teams met in another heart breaking contest. In the first : inning, owing to a wild throw by one of the Gaffne} players, Blacksburg i sent a man across the plate, scorring the only run of the game, but for this j unfortunate wild throw, Blaci sburg would not have scored and it would have required more than nine innings , to decide the contest. Belue, for : Blacksburg, pitched a splendid game for the visitors, yielding only two ( hits and striking out eight men. Susong. for Gaffney, was in splendid I form, striking out eleven men and yielding only two hits. Wheat, who so kind ly tendered the use of his beautiful ! park for the occasion, and also to Mr. Harry Wheat, who gave the use of his splendid car to the visitors. every man, woman and child in this and adjoining counties take this day off and come to Gaffney and make this one of the best celebrations ever held. First Baptist Church Notes. Next Sunday morning at 11 o’clock ia the annual offering for home mis sions and every member of the church is urged to be present. It is expect ed that prof. Griffith will have a talk about the work. At night Dr. Simms will preach a sermon which he wishes all his peo ple to hear. Sunday school at 9:45. A cordial invitation to visitors and strangers to all of the services.
