Several lots of cotton have been
sold recently on the local market for
twelve cents. There is large quan
tity of cotton in Cherokee county yet
to be marketed.

Seven to One.
In a game of ball between the boys
across the Broad and the Gaffney In
dians Wednesday afternoon, the fea
tures of which were the numerous
and costly errors of the Indians.
Blacljsburg won by the score of 7 to 1
Ross, for Blacksburg, pitched a good
game, pulling himself out of several
holes where hits meant runs.
Snead, for Gaffney, pitched an ex
cellent game, allowing only two hits,
and had he been given any support
at all, would have won his game. He
was steady from start to finish and
the fact that Blacksburg only secured
two hits, shows he was master of the
game had the home boys only sup
ported him fairly well. Gaffney does
not intend to stop playing at all but
is still in the game and expects to re
main there until the season is over.
The boys expect more material short
ly.
Lumber for the fence around the
new park has been bought and the
ground will be enclosed just as soon
as it arrives, which will be only a few
days.

and 8:15 p. m., by the pastor.

The Ledger regrets to announce
that Prof. B- J- Wells will no longer
be connected with the graded schools
of Gaffney, and has gone to his home
in Laurens. The professor is an able
educator, and will doubtless succeed
wherever he goes.

Thomas H. Hester has been ap
pointed postmaster a* Gaffney by
President Roosevelt and has forward
ed his bond to Washington. Mr. Hes
ter will take charge of the office as
soon ag his bond is approved and his
commission arrives.
Little Belle, the infant daughter of
J Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Moore, died at
j their home on Logan street Wednes
day morning at one o’clock and was
burled at Blacksburg Wednesday af
ternoon at 4 o’clock, in the presence
of a large number of friends and rel
atives.
The dog that bit young Thompson
Wednesday, had already bitten a lit
tle negro girl named Annie Jenkins.
The child is about seven and a half
years of age. She was taken to Mr.
Lowe’s and the madstone applied but
owing to the fact that the skin was
not broken, it failed to stick.
The Baraca class of the First Bap
tist church at the monthly business
meeting, elected the following offic
ers: Leon Gaffney, president;
Broadus Pryor, vice-president; L. C.
Hopper, secretary; J. M. Goodwin,
treasurer; W. K. Gunter, reporter.
Next Sunday morning the class will
appoint delegates to the Baraca Con
vention which meets this year in Cin
cinnati, Ohio, June 14-16. Every
member is urged to be present. Our
class, although a good one, Is not so
large, but that each absent one !•
