Great prepara tions are being made to entertain the old soldiers and we hope Cherokee county will have a full delegation there. Mrs, W. C. Sparks, we are glad to note, has about got well again. She has been in feeble health for a long time and a good part of the time she was not expected to live. The roa f i has been worked out from Sarratts on toward Sunnyside and it is now in very good fix. We are having just enough showers to keep the ground in good plow order witho-ut making it too wet. If our farmers don't have plenty of grass soon it will not he because they haven't ffad the right kind of seasons to bring it on. Our friend and neighbor, Mr. W. P. Goforth has an outfit for canning fruit, vegetables, etc. He put up a lot last year that'kept finely. Those interested in this industry might barn something to their advantage by seeing or writing him for an out fit. directions, etc. He is a son of that sturdy old farmer. Mr. F. A. The cut worms played havoc with it during the cool spell of weather. One of our nearest neighbors promises to raise one hun- drued bushels of corn on an acre of upland this year. She has A W- O- W- Camp to Be Organized at Pondfield. Diaytonvllle. May 2".—Rev. B. L Hoke, of Blacksburg, filled his regu lar appointment at Mt. Ararat last Saturday and Sunday. Your (corres pondent did not attend these services but we learn that Mi . Hoke delivered two splendid rmous to large congre gations. Miss Hattie Parker, tended services here night and visited he; J. Parker. There is an effort being made to organize a W. O. W, camp a* Pond field. All who are interested in th organization of the camp please 1* > Messrs. E. B. or Caleb Spencer know at once. The W. O. W. is one of the oest secret orders that has eve;- been organized. It gives the best insur ance for the least money and every one that fins joined it speaks of it as being the best order. The organiza tion of this camp will be helpful to the members around here who be long to other camps which ate locat ed a distance from their homes. We hope they will meet with success in organizing the camp. Hon. E. J. Clary, of Corinth, v rs in this section this week on business. Messrs. Adolphus Phillips and Stainly Wilson attended the unveil ing exercises of Mr. Echols Phillips' monument at Corinth last Sunday. We are indebted to Mr. Will Darby, of The Ledger, for one of his cook boobs. We have examined it md find it to be a good useful book, and ag we have the book to tell ns how to cook, we would like for Mime one to send us something to cook. Mr. Darby, We would not object if you would send it to us. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Parker attended religious services at Mt. Ararat last Sunday. There were only a few of our farm ers who went to Gaffney last Satur day. The ground was a little wet but they worked just, the same. Miss Ola Bailey and brother, Mr Herbert, attended services at Corinth j last Sunday. 'Mr. John Rains, of Gaffney, spent a few hours with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Rains, last Sunday after noon. Mr. O- V. Patrick attended religious services at Mt. Ararat last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Whelchel at tended the Woodman exercises at Corinth last Sunday. Miss Neely Owensby is spending a few (lays with Mr. and Mrs. Roland Parker, of Gaffney. The Sunday school at this place is practicing up for the Childrens’ Day exercises which will be held some time in June. They have not decided what Sunday, but we will publish it later. We believe that these “big days’’ as they are called, prove a great blessing to the little children and also to their parents. It helps ilie children in a good many ways. It makes them brighter boys and girls and when they get to the age of ma turity they are not afraid or ashamed to face the public. It fills the parents’ hearts with joy to see their children with these preparations for the life they will live. We do not want to have any con troversy with the linotype man, but we do not like for him to make so great a mistake in our letters gs he did in.our last Friday’s letter. He had our letter dated nearly a week late: it should have been the nineteenth. The farmers are busy with their farm work this week while the ground is in order to work. We have been having a great deal of rain and the farmers are behind with their work. Rev. Ben Hoke took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. O- V. Patrick last Sun day and filled his Appointment at Cherokee Falls Sunday night. W'e will have to discontinue writing : every week on account of not hav- i ing time to write an interesting let- j ter and we hope that some corres- ; pondents that do not write long let ters will write longer ones. We like i to see letters from our section and ! hope some one will help us out in I keeping the readers posted on the movements around here.
