As we promised to keep our read ers posted as to the progress of the Robbins house, it gives us great pleasure to announce that the struc ture is now located at its final desti nation. J. C. Qtts leaves for Greenwood this morning where he will act as one of the judges in the oratorical contest to be held tonight, under the auspi ces of the Inter Collegiate Oratorical Association of South Carolina. The Baraca and Philathea classes of the First Baptist church have been invited to go to Spartanburg Sunday morning by the classes of the First Baptist church of Spartanburg. The invitation has been gladly accepted, and the classes will leave on train No. :19 Sunday morning. The Ladies Memorial Association of Elbethel church will meet on Sat urday afternoon. May 2nd, at 2 o’clock to decorate the graves of the soldiers buried there. They will be glad tc have all who can attend and carry flowers, old soldiers are invited to attend. Rev. S. B. Harpe;- will preach a ser mon to the Knights of Pythias on the third Sunday in May at the Buford Street Methodist church. Mr. Harper, in addition to being one of the best preachers of the Methodist church, is an enthusiastic K. of P. and all wno attend this service will hear a splen did sermon. In a hotly contested game of ball between the Marie I^-iTour Stock Co. ?nd the Gaffney team on last Wed nesday, the latter proved victorious. Tlje Marie LaTour team has. some fine individual players, but they lack in team work. The feature of the game was the hitting of the Gaffney “hunch’’ and the catch by Mr. South- all in left field for Marie I^aTour team. Dr. Billie Gunter and W. S. Hall. Esq., have returned from the District Pythian Convention at Winnsboro looking much I be worse for wear. Col. Jones J. Darby, who “also went,” has not yet returned, it is reported that his silk hat got caught in the telegraph wires which delayed him. Certain members of the fair sex who shall be nameless, are much exercis ed because he did not return with the others. Cheer up young ladies, the colonel wiil be sure to boh up in a short time. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. Lawn A Good Show. The Marie I^aTour Stock Company, v.hich were billed to appear here all this week, canceled the last three nights of their engagement on account of the poor business here. This is a strong company and should have been liberally patronized. The plays of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights were far above the average plays of stock companys. and the spe cialties were very good. The work of the Desmond Trio and of Mr. Teaff and Miss LaTour were especially good. As a whole, the company is a good one. each performer seeming per fectly fitted for his part. Esq. C. P. Huggins, of the section, was here yesterday. “Coz” Wood, who is beloved by everybody in Gaffney, was here shak ing hands yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Beverly Hallman, of Gastonia. N. C.. are visiting Mr. Hall man's parents in the city. Mr. .1. S. Littlejohn was called to Jonesville Wednesday on account of the illness of his sister, Mrs. Mary Littlejohn, who was operated on for apendicitis Wednesday, Mrs. Sam Hopper, Jr., left Wednes day morning for Atlanta, Ga.. where she goes to visit her friend. Mrs. J. Edgar Eubanks. After spending several days there she will go to Americus, Ga., to see her friend, Mrs. S. A. Daniels. Dr. W. G. Gunter, Prof. Hall and Jones J. Darby have returned to the city from Winnsboro, where they have been in attendance on thejDis- trict Meeting of the Knights • of Pythias. The "Old Man’’ is in Charlotte this week attendding the North Caro lina State Press Association. Messrs. Houston, Bramlett and Humphries, of Spartanburg, were Gaffney visitors Wednesday. B. F. Caldwell, of York, who is well known in Gaffney was in the city yesterday. Capt. J. B. Bell is in Greenville this week attending court. Miss Mayme Jefferies left yester day for Greenville to visit relatives. .Miss Esther Goudelock left Wed nesday for Greenville. Dr. W. C. McDowell, of Kershaw, visited Mr. and Mrs. Warmoth, on Granard street, last Tuesday. Frank McCluney was in the city yesterday on business. Miss Ruth Sarratt returned home last Tuesday from Charlotte, N. C., where she has been visiting relatives. Messrs. Will Lipscomb, Harry Wheat and Leo Little spent last Sun day in Spartanburg. Mrs. Charles K. Gould and little son, of Spartanburg, is visiting her sister. Mrs. Pierson. Mrs. Baxter Lemmond, of Spartan burg, is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. L. Eison. Mrs. E. L. Eison has returned to the city after an extended visit to Spartanburg and Ixickhart. Oscar Shanks, the handsome and genial general manager of the Dravo Contracting Company, was in Gaff ney yesterday E. K. Belue, of Blacksburg, spent yesterday in the city. Victor Lipscomb and Harry Wheat • pent last Tuesday in Spartanburg. Hon. E. 0- S m Rh to Speak. Hon. E. I). Smith, candidate for I’uited States senate, has accepted an invitation to deliver an address before the Holly Grove Farmers’ Union at Mt. Paran Saturday, May 2nd. Rev. B. L.
