Agent Osborne, of the Southern
has received a telegram from Knox
ville, Tenn., to the effect that a man
w as killed at that place as the result
of an accident, who was supposed to
be Henry McCullough. The dead man
is supposed to be a son of Mr. E. G.
McCullough, of Star Farm, this
county.

The child of Mf. and Mrs. Fred De-
stafino, an infant girl of about three
days old, was burled last Tuesday at
Oakland cemetery. •
Z. A. Robertson is preparing to
build four cottage on and near Bu
ford street, which will be for rent
when completed.

Nearly all the members of the par
ty who went to the river to catch
fish Saturday afternoon, caught cold

Garnet Martin is building a dwell
ing on Buford street near his place

The many friends of Mr. J. A. Ma
son will be glad to learn that he Is
rapidly recovering from his recent
injury. Wte hope to soon see him on
the streets again.
The little babe which was left with
the negro woman, Lou Falls, some
weeks ago, and afterwards taken by
its mother, died Saturday night and
wag buried Sunday.
Floyd Ross has accepted a position
with J. G. Bramlet. Mr. Ross is a
son of Lem Ross. He is a chip off
the old block and will make his em
ployer a valuable man.

B. O. Turner is placing lumber on
the ground preparatory to erecting
a dwelling on Buford street. Mr.
Turner will move to the city when
his house is finished.
The Furman Glee Club made a
tour of the streets Friday in Mr.
Wheat’s auto-trucb and attracted
quite a lot of attention. It was a
good advertisement for the boys.
It is refreshing to pause and take
a look at the store window of Carroll
ft Byers. The display is always
worth a look, as the arrangements
are always in the very best taste.
Chief of Police T. H. Lockhart, as
a result of information received from
the authorities of Cowpens, arrested
a negro named Littlejohn, from that
place yesterday. He Is charged with
housebreaking.
Rev. George Ratchford preached at
the Presbyterian church Sunday.
There was a large congregation pre
sent and the young divine preached
a sermon which was much enjoyed
by all his hearers.
Hon. J. Q. Little has recently pur
chased a new vehicle in which he
purposes to take his friends to ride.
It has rubber tires, and teel spokes,
and has the appearance of being a
splendid piece of work.
The Gaffney Manufacturing Com
pany has closed down tor a week for
the purpose of overhauling the ma
chinery. The report that the mill has
shut down Indefinitely Is entirely
without foundation.
The Schubert Lady Quaretete will
be the attraction at the Star Theatre
next Thursday night. Already more
than one hundred tickets have been
engaged. Seats will go on sale today.
The prices are 25c, 35c, 50c and 75c.
Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Johnson return
ed last Friday from Lancaster where
they attended the wedding of Miss
Lillian Gregory to Mr. Stoney Drake,
both of Lancaster. They also visited
the old home place near Hairs gold
mine.
Col. D. C. Ross was appointed by
Judge D. E. Hydrick Saturday, receiv
er for the W. C. Carpenter Company.
Mr. Ross toob charge of the affairs
of the company officially Saturday af
ternoon, and will dispose of the stock
with all convenient speed.
Col. Walter H. Geer Is responsi
ble for the statement that after next
Sunday, the people of Gaffney may
confidently expect the State news
paper to arrive on No. 37, Ss on that
date a schedule will go into effect by
which we will always get the paper
on that train.
J. C. Otts, Esq., has been conduct
ing a reference, and the testimony
taken will make something like one
hundred pages, two thirds of which
is clearly in competent. This is not
the fault of the Referee however, as
the order of reference ^prescribed
that he should only take the testi
mony. w
There has been practically no sweet
potatoes on this market for some
weeks. Mr. B. G. CUfry. of Clary ft
Kirby, went to the mountains of
North Carolina last Thursday and
purchased one hundred bushels of fine
The program rendered by the Fur
man Glee Club at Limestone College
on last Friday evening was a decided
success. The boys sang well together
and we might add that some of the
voices would be a credit to a club of
professionals. Everyone present
seemed to enjoy the ocassion very
much.
Attention is directed to the real
estate advertisement of S. L. Fort in
this issue. Mr. Fort is going to sell
at public eutcry a number of desir
able building lots, situate in a grow
ing section of the city. The sale takes
place Saturday, April 25th at 1:30 on
the premises. This is a golden op
portunity to get a building lot at your
own price.
The house of Mr. C. H. Robbins
which we mentioned in our last issue
as being ‘‘stuck’'- at the intersection
0; Frederick and Limestone streets,
has at length been gotten away from
that point and is now being rapidly
moved down Limestone street. Rob
bins was fooling around town Satur
day morning with his face as long as
him arm. but he is now all smiles.
A party of gentlemen from Gaffney
went over to Gaston Shoals Saturday
afternoon for the purpose of fishing,
as they learned that the gates would
be shut down that afternoon, but
they were disappointed. Owing to a
mistake in the calculation, the water
was not shut off until Sunday. The
party returned to the city without
having obtained any flsh of any con
sequence.
