at the rate of one quart to 300 square feet—price per quart, 35 cents.
Plant our two pound Tomato, the largest and meatiest Tomato
grown, one Tomato sliced will fill a medium size dish, 10 cents per
paper.
Plant our Silver Skin and Yellow Danver Onion Sets, 10 cents per

We especially want to call the attention of the public to a few
varieties of Seeds that from our experience with truck farmers, are
particularly fine, namely, Alaska Peas, Rocky Ford Canteloupe,
Carolina Bradford Watermelon, Canning Tomato, extra early, Valen
tine Beans, Stringless Green Pod Bean. Our stock of these Seeds is
the purest strain.
In the Early Corn we carry Adams Extra Early, Early Cory,
Country Gentleman, Stowell’s Evergreen, White and Early Dent,
Snowflake and Columbia Beauty; we think these the pick, the best
of all the Early Corns.
For forage, we carry the-Sorghum, Amber and Orange, the Mil
lets, Cat-Tail or Pearl and German, Teosinte and Peas.
We particularly recommend Teosinte to our customers as one of
the best forage crops for green food for cows. Can be cut every few
weeks. It stools out more and grotvs off better after being cut.

A negro named Robert Morgan
who lives near Concord church about
five miles from Gaffney, brought his
daughter, a little girl of six years, to
Gaffney Saturday afternoon for the
purpose of having her treated by the
application of Mr. Brown Lowe’s
madstone. The child was playing In
the house Saturday morning when
the dog, which had been away from
home some days, ran In and bit her
on the right wrist, but only grazed
the skin. Mr. Lowe, after washing
the arm thoroughly, took a razor and
made some tiny cuts on the sbin
where the child was bitten and then
placing the stone over the wound,
wrapped a cloth tightly over It. It
failed to stick, however, and Mr.
Lcwe is convinced that no poison en
tered the system. Mr. Lowe Inform
ed us that on last Tuesday Mr. J. D.
Dominick, of Newberry, brought his
little girl aged two years, which had
been bitten by a mad dog, to his house
and that he applied the stone and It
stuck for five hours and two minutes.
Mr. Lowe further said that the little
Dominick girl was the seventh case
In which the stone had been used
successfully. When asked how he
used the stone Mr. Lowe said that
when it adhered to a wound that It
would absorb all It would hold then
he would place it in a vessel contain
ing sweet milk and that after re
maining a short time the poison
would come out and the milk would
turn green, and that after using the
milk several L.mes it would become
thick, of about the consistency of
paste.
Upon being asked where he ob
tained the stone, Mr. Lowe said that
about eight years ago his little
daughter found it in the mill at Gaff
ney where she was working. He did
not know what it was and kept It
two years before he discovered that
it was a madstone. Mr. Lowe values
the stone very highly, and if it really
has the virtue which he claims, it is
a boon to the community.

Several weeks ago The Ledger con
talned a large advertisement for the
Farmers’ and Mechanics Building and
Loan Association in which they used
the testimonials of Messrs. Hamll,
Burgess and Parris as to the benefits
of the building and loan plan for the
wage earner, but |he advertisement
neglected to say that these gentle
men were stockholders in the Chero
kee Building and Loan Association
and not in the Farmers’ and Mecha
nics. Of coarse the only purpose was
to trv to Impress upon others the
benefits of the building and loan plan,
but President Charley Jefferies of the
Cherokee Building and Loan, says
that Attorney Otts ought not to have
stolen his thunder without giving his
concern credit.
